Reading Corner:
Please be sure your child is reading for AT LEAST 30 minutes each night
and recording it on their reading log. Reading logs are due every Friday
with a parent signature. Thank you! In reading, we have been working on
the important skill, point of view. The student learned that stories can be
written from many different narrative perspectives including 1st person,
2nd person, 3rd person limited, 3rd person objective, and 3rd person
omniscient. The students have been identifying the point of view in a
variety of fiction selections. This month, they will also be analyzing
informational text, specifically biographies, to determine authors point of
view and perspective.

Math Corner:
In math, the students have been working on fractions. They have been
adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions and have now moved on to
relating fractions and decimals. Please continue to have your child practice
their basic multiplication and division facts as often as possible.

Writing Corner:
We will continue to work on both informative/explanatory and opinion prompts
focusing on the four most important elements of effective writing:
*FOCUS (clear, unified ideas)
*ORGANIZATION (structured, logically arranged ideas)
*SUPPORT (specific text evidence, details, examples, and precise vocabulary.)
*CONVENTIONS (variety of sentences, spelling, grammar, punctuation).
We will be working very hard to prepare for the writing portion of the FSA that
is just around the corner on Tuesday, February 28th. Please assist your child at
home as much as possible with writing by doing practice prompts, reviewing
past essays, and giving LOTS of encouragement!!

Science Corner:
In February we will be learning all about matter and its properties. The
students will identify the physical properties of matter, test the law of
conservation of mass, and study the states of water. Later in the month, we
will be studying physical and chemical changes of matter through many fun
demonstrations and experiments!!

Parent Involvement/Classroom News:
