CANNONBALL,N.D.Gov.DougBurgumvisitedthecommunityofCannonBallonWednesdaynighttomeetwithandlistento
localresidentsastheysharedtheirconcernsanddiscussedhowthestateandStandingRockSiouxTribecanworktogetheron
importantissuestocreatehopeforthefuture.

Thegovernormetformorethanthreehourswithabout70residents,CannonBallDistrictrepresentaves,StandingRockTribal
CouncilmembersandChairmanDaveArchambaultIIattheCannonBallCommunityCenter.

ResidentssharedtheirconcernsabouttheimpactsoftheongoingDakotaAccessPipelineprotests,explaininghowtheyhosted
peoplefromallovertheworldbutnowtheirresourcesarestretchedthin,theyfeellesssafeandrelaonshipswithneighbors
havebecomefrayed.Theyalsostressedtheinconvenience,healthconcernsandeconomichardshiprelatedtotheclosureof
Highway1806betweenCannonBallandBismarckMandanandtheirstrongdesiretoseetheBackwaterBridgereopened.

Gov.Burgumacknowledgedtheimpactsandwaspleasedtohearresidentsrearmtheirdesiretovacateandcleanupthemain
protestcampbeforespringoodinginordertomaintainpublicsafety,avoidrivercontaminaonandensureasafeenvironment,
whichiskeytoaphasedreopeningofthebridge.Thegovernoralsosaidhelooksforwardtoworkingwiththetribeonissuessuch
aseducaonandhealthcareaerthepipelinemaerisresolved.

Wecantchangethepast,Burgumsaid,butwecanchangethefuturebyhowweworktogether.

TribalelderssaiditwasthefirsttimetheycouldrecallasittingNorthDakotagovernorcomingtomeetwithresidentsinCannonBall.
JustlisteningandunderstandingshowsthatheiswillingtoworkforallNorthDakotacitizens,Archambaultsaid.Icommendthe
governorandlookforwardtofindingsolutionswithhim.
