(2) QuarterWaveWirc Antenna

Usually constructedin a vertical configudtion,

the quarterwaveantennais sometimesusedin base
stationinstallations.However,it is more commonly
usedon shipsor yachts,especiallywhen the space

The wire hils one end connected to a cemmic

insulator, which is, in tun, hoisted up a non-
metallic mast. The other end of the wre is
connectedto the center conductorof the coaxial

water pipe may provide a usablegroundin many
instances. On yachts, the ground lbil in the hull
must be used. The vertical radiator must be
insulated from grcund, and it should not touoh
any trces,buildings,or rigging(on yachts).

For all antennatypes,be certainthat the FT-l80A

meter needle, when switched to the PO (REF)
position, staysin the GREEN z.oneof the meter
soalewhile transmitting.If the deflectionis outside
of the GREBNzone, the antennamust be checked
or readjustedfor the correctimpedance.

CROUND CONNECTION

The FT-l80A shouldbo oonnectedto a goodearth

gound for best performzmce and safety. Use a
heavy bmided wie, not morc than 3 meters in
length, for connectionto the station groundbus.
The groundconnectionat the transciver shouldbe AntennaElementinstalledseparately
