Living Picture Narrative Reflection

My development as writer has been influenced by various amounts of

assignments, essays, note taking, and script-related activities throughout my
scholastic career. Naturally, I was never one to be fond of the art known as writing
and had trouble focusing my thoughts on paper. However, this inability of mine was
conquered as I practiced and developed the skill. As of now, I was able to
demonstrate my experience in writing via the Living Picture Narrative Project, in
which I explored my realm of baseball. To further elaborate on my experience
throughout the assignment, I will describe the process of my work, depict two
aspects in which the assignment helped me strengthen, and my future perception of
the utilization of the skills I developed when writing.

My writing process was rather simple in my point of view. The assignment
asked for an area of my liking that I became literate in and I immediately thought of
baseball, although I tried to think of other areas of my life to discuss. As I usually
write, there was little to no outline or preorganization of my writing. Straight from
pencil to paper since its best suited for my style of writing. However, the first draft
of my narrative was rough as it was rushed and needed quite a bit of configuration
to maintain a clear and concise narrative all while being interesting to follow. In my
perspective, I always try to employ the phenomena of gobbledygook in a manner
that adds a variety of colorful vocabulary to further enhance my writing. For the
most part, after corrections made, my narrative was fluid and did not stray from the
subject at hand. In the future, I will attempt to begin an assignment in a timely
manner and give my brain some time to formulate better information to utilize in
my upcoming works.
As for the aspects in which I strengthened in this project of mine, research
and metacognition, I relied heavily on the two to develop my piece. In respects to
research, evidently I utilized all my past experiences to create the culmination of
words that are my narrative. However, I am no professional MLB player and hence
cannot know everything related to baseball, so I researched some information off
hand (http://www.baseball-
reference.com/bullpen/History_of_baseball_in_the_United_States). From my youth to
senior year of high school, I collected and analyzed every moment I spent on and off
the field, using that as a basis to describe my development in baseball. Although I
cannot say to what degree this activity has strengthened my research skills, I still
became better in that respect. In regards to metacognition, I reflected the approach
I took in creating this narrative and the overall structure. I aimed to improve the
language so that baseball terminology could be understood by the average
individual. In addition, I sought to provide enough evidence within my descriptions
to make my narrative more credible and believable.

Will what I developed in the time span of this assignment, I could incorporate
my knowledge any number of ways. In chemistry, I would be able to carefully
analyze an unbalanced chemical equation and determine which coefficients for each
of the chemical compounds will balance the entire chain. In addition, I could utilize
such skills to easily identify key information in the chapter contents of both my
math and chemistry textbooks. Recognizing my mistakes in this project also gave
me practice on how to review my own works entirely and would allow me to better
revise any assignment I complete, which will be very beneficial in my upcoming
years.
All in all, the Living Narrative Project was interesting to say the least as it
enabled me to strengthen core aspects of my writing and cognitive thinking as well
reflect on the process I used and refined the skills I utilized throughout the
assignment, in which I will incorporate into my upcoming assignments.
