Cigarette Smoking is Dangerous to our Health

I. Introduction

A. Description of the issue

A cigarette, or cigaret, is a small cylinder of finely cut tobacco leaves rolled in thin paper
for smoking. The cigarette is ignited at one end causing the cigarette to smolder and allowing smoke to
be inhaled from the other end, which is held in or to the mouth; in some cases, a cigarette holder may
be used, as well. Most modern manufactured cigarettes are filtered, and also include reconstituted
tobacco and other additives.

The term cigarette, as commonly used, refers to a tobacco cigarette, but can apply to similar devices
other substances, such as cannabis. A cigarette is distinguished from a cigar by its smaller size, use of
processed leaf, and paper wrapping, which is normally white, though other colors and flavors are also
available. Cigars are typically composed entirely of whole-leaf tobacco.

Rates of cigarette smoking vary widely throughout the world and have changed considerably since
cigarettes were first widely used in the mid-19th century. While rates of smoking have over time leveled
off or declined in the developed world, they continue to rise in developing nations.

Cigarettes carry serious health risks, which are more prevalent than with other tobacco
products. Nicotine the primary psychoactive chemical in tobacco and therefore cigarettes, is very
addictive. About half of cigarette smokers die of tobacco-related disease and lose on average 14 years
of life. Cigarette use by pregnant women has also been shown to cause birth defects, including low
birth weight, fetal abnormalities, and premature birth. Second-hand Smoke from cigarettes has been
shown to be injurious to bystanders, which has led to legislation that has prohibited smoking in many
workplaces and public areas. Cigarettes produce an aerosol containing over 4,000 chemical
compounds, including nicotine, carbon monoxide, acrolein, and other harmful substances. Over 50 of
these are carcinogenic. Cigarettes are a frequent source of fires leading to loss of lives in private
homes, which prompted both the European Union and the United States to ban cigarettes that are
not fire-standard compliant from 2011 onwards.

The effects of smoking are legion. Smoking is dangerous because it has effects on the
respiratory system and cardiovascular system. One of the most dreaded effects of smoking is lung
cancer. Unfortunately, the effects of smoking are seen not only among smokers, but also in the people
around them. Smoking is also very dangerous because smoke contains more than four thousand
poisonous substances which cause various diseases, even death. Among these are cancer-producing
substances, carbon monoxide, nicotine, and other irritating substances. Many disease youve
encounter if you are the one who smoke, smoking causes lung disease, heart and blood vessel
disease, cancer, and other illness. One of four smokers dies of diseases directly related to smoking.
Many others suffers years of pain, ill health, and discomfort.

Does smoking affect non-smokers? Yes. For every person who smokes, there are two who do
not. But the non-smokers still breathes in sidestream smoke from the burning cigarettes tip and
mainstream smoke that has been inhaled then exhaled by the smoker. This is called passive,
involuntary, or second hand smoke, which also exposes the non-smoker to the same dangers and
discomforts that a smoker faces.

Non-smokers living with smokers have a 35% increased risk of getting lung cancer compared to
non-smokers living with fellow non-smokers. Smokers children are more likely to get b, chronic
exposure bronchitis, pneumonia, and other chest infections, especially in their first year of life. Chronic
cough and phlegm are also more frequent among children of parents who smoke. In the workplace to
tobacco smoke reduces airway functions to the same degree as smoking one to ten cigarettes a day.

Nowadays, all people using cigarette is so very alarming because if they not stop it may cause
death. Smoking is a habit which individuals find difficult to quit. Many people make preparations for
months in their effort to get rid of the habit, Many teenagers smoke because of depression and stress,
but they should know by now that smoking kills you from the inside the are many ways to solve
problems like those but one of them is NOT smoking. It's just madness and it will give you cancer.
People like teenagers dont think. SMOKING is BAD for YOU!!!!!!
