New ET Class Compressor Cylinders

To add flexibility and increase competitive advantages within our current product line, Ariel introduces
the new ET class cylinders. These cylinders are based on the E class cylinder body and JGE:H
crosshead guide designs, but with additional crosshead guide to cylinder mounting bolts. E cylinders
have twelve 5/8-11 UNC mounting bolt holes, whereas the new ET cylinders have sixteen. This
increased bolting allows cylinder and guide assembly operation at JGT rod loads.
All E cylinders ordered
after 1-1-03 are
identified as ET
cylinders on their data
plates, and have
sixteen bolt holes for
mounting to guide. ET

12 Mounting Bolt Holes 16 Mounting Bolt Holes
Crosshead guides
supplied with JGE and JGH frames have twelve bolt holes drilled in the guide to cylinder mounting
flange. Guides supplied with JGT frames for ET cylinders have sixteen bolt holes in the mounting flange,
plus these guides also have a barrier pin installed in the flange face. The guide barrier pin prevents
installation of misapplied H or E class cylinders with twelve mounting bolt holes in the cylinder, on a JGT
frame. A corresponding pin clearance hole in the ET cylinder or crank-end head allows installation of the
ET cylinder with the sixteen-bolt guide. A caution plate mounted on sixteen-bolt guides warns users not
to remove the pin.
ET class cylinders can be used on JGE and JGH frames with JGH:E crosshead guides, and on JGT
frames with the new ET type guides. Do not use old H or E class cylinders on JGT frames.
