AMISOM hails Uganda Police officers for exemplary service

Mogadishu, February 6 2017 - The African Union Mission in
Somalia (AMISOM) has hailed a contingent of Uganda police officers
for dedicated service during their tour of duty.

The four officers, who have served in the mission as Individual Police
Officers (IPOs), for the last one and a half years, were awarded
medals and certificates by the AMISOM Police Commissioner,
Brigadier Anand Pillay, at a function held in Mogadishu.

Commissioner Pillay noted that due to their exemplary service,

AMISOM extended their stay beyond the standard one year duration
they were supposed to serve.

Generally speaking the Uganda Police contingent is disciplined and

performed exceptionally well. They showed initiative and tried their
best to make the mission a success and to build and capacitate the
Somali Police Force and for that I want to thank the whole
contingent, Brig. Pillay noted.

The Police Commissioner thanked the Ugandan government and the

Uganda Police Force for sending dedicated officers to serve in the
mission.

AMISOM Deputy Police Commissioner, Christine Alalo, also spoke

highly of the team, adding that the IPOs had done Uganda proud.

Thank you for raising the Ugandan flag. You did a good job and we
want to thank the government of Uganda for allowing you to serve,
the AMISOM Deputy Police Commissioner noted.

Individual Police Officers (IPOs) co-locate with the Somali Police

Force (SPF) in several police stations where they train and mentor
them on policing.

AMISOM has five Police Contributing Countries (PCCs), namely,

Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda. Ends
