UTRAN introduction
UTRAN components
The UTRAN is composed of at least one Radio Network Subsystem (RNS). An RNS
covers a certain geographical area. It is equivalent to the GSM BSS. Each RNS is
composed of one Radio Network Controller (RNC) and one or more Node Bs. RNSs are
interconnected through the Iur interface of each RNC to form a network.
Alcatel-Lucent UTRAN
The Alcatel-Lucent UTRAN is based on the following components:
RNC
Node B
WMS for the OAM part
RNC
The Alcatel-Lucent RNC is 3GPP-compliant. It is based on the Multiservice Switch
platform.

It plays an important role in providing the foundation of a complete end-to-end
management solution for UMTS networks. The WMS manages the entire UMTS
network, which is divided into:
The UTRAN
The Core Network (circuit-switched and packet-switched traffics).
The Access Network OAM manages the UTRAN part of the network.
NSP
The Network Services Platform (NSP) is a graphical user interface to the Access Network
providing a common platform for navigation and control. The NSP interfaces with the
NEs through a Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA). This
vendor-independent architecture links computer applications across different networks.

9311 Macro V2 ID interfaces Iub interface physical description
....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Hybrid Iub
The hybrid Iub interface consists of the following connectivity:
ATM/PCM connectivity for R99, HSDPA, or HSUPA signaling and OAM traffic
IP/Ethernet connectivity for HSPA traffic (HSDPA + HSUPA, or HSDPA only)
Note: Hybrid Iub bandwidth pools resiliency (default configuration)
When IP connectivity is lost, new HSPA calls are transferred on the ATM path.
If the ATM path is configured into separate pools (one dedicated for HSPA on IP, the
other shared with R99 on ATM), and the dedicated pool fails, then new HSPA calls are
put in the shared pool.
The hybrid Iub interface requires an xCCM module ((xCCM-4E1 or xCCM-GE hardware
configuration)
Hybrid Iub backhauling can be optimized using Alcatel-Lucent 9500 Microwave Packet
Radio (MPR).
Native IP Iub
The native IP Iub interface consists of a full IP/Ethernet transport on an Iub interface.
When a native IP Iub feature is deployed, the ATM/PCM connectivity is no longer used
on Iub.

When the iCCM is activated, it needs to be configured only by RNC.
The new call is established.
The following functions change in comparison with the CCM:
HSSPC: five HSSPC2 operating in dual device turbo have replaced the nine HSSPC2
operating in the single device turbo mode on the CCM
New routing table compared to the CCM: Rlink and Flink driver replaced by BBlink
Network FPGA on iCCM replaces Time Switch on CCM
The PSC functions is replaced by matching BSP function
One iCCM supports up to three wide-band carriers with transmit and receive diversity in

9311 Macro V2 ID hardware Transceiver Receiver Module (TRM)
9311 Macro V2 ID digital shelf description
....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Main functions
The TRM contains the transmit/receive circuitry for three transmitting chains and six
receiving chains.
Downlink path
The TRM (dTRM) receives up to six signals from the CCM. These downlink samples are
transferred to the Tx channelizers. The channelizers perform chip level modulation, peak
power reduction, filtering, and then deliver the signals (three maximum) to the D/A
converters of the TRM (rTRM).
In the analog domain, the digital signals are transformed into RF signals through D/A
conversion, modulation, filtering/amplification and translation operations. The final RF
signals have the appropriate level to drive the MCPA.
The total transmitted power is proportional to the data rate of the codes and the number of
these codes (communications). A power control adjusts each RF signal to optimize the
total interference level noise between the Node B and the user equipment.
Uplink branch
The uplink branch handles three pair-received signals (main and diversity) that comes
from the antenna via a coupling system which separates transmission from reception.
These signals are filtered, amplified, demodulated, A/D converted and then transmitted to
the Rx channelizers in the digital domain.
The receiving channelizer receives the six A/D converter signals. It processes the data and
transmits them to the CCM.

Clock generation and recovery operation
The TRM also performs clock generation and recovery operation. The clock is recovered
from the link with the CCM, and sent to the TRM (rTRM). This board generates the clock
signals for the A/D converters of the receiving branch and the A/D converters of the
transmitting branch.
Hardware description
The TRM consists of two boards: dTRM and rTRM.
dTRM
The dTRM includes the following:
Six Tx channelizers
Three Rx channelizers
The digital board functions are the following:
Reception of a maximum of six transmitted signals from the CCM.
It performs the following actions:
Data samples reception from the CCM
Data shaping processing
Driving of three transmitted chains with resulting data samples
Reception of the six signals from the antennas (main and diversity)
It performs the following actions:
Chains reception
Data shaping processing
Resulting data samples sent to the CCM
Recovery and distribution of the clock
Control and monitoring of the radio modules (TRM, MCPA, DDM)
Supply voltage for radio board
The dTRM includes six Tx channelizers. Each of them is able to support one UMTS
channel, and they can be put in cascade. The transmission possibility is three 3-carrier
signals.
On the Rx side, the dTRM allows the reception of up to six single carrier signals. It can
implement one of the following solutions:

Reception of two frequency carriers, instead of one
Only with xTRM : integration of the Base Band Pre-Distortion (BBPD) interface
which allows BBPD feedback loop
The xTRM-2 does not support BBPD.
The xTRM is controlled by a PQII processor which controls the Tx and Rx processing
paths.
The xTRM can be configured with:
xTRM-1R mode: only one carrier in uplink
xTRM-2R mode: two carriers in uplink

The xTRM is designed to be configured in xTRM-1R or xTRM-2R modes, in association
with four generations of MCPA modules (MCPA, MCPA-2, MCPA-3, and MCPA 60W)
or the SCPA module:
In xTRM-1R single-carrier mode (default operation mode), the second carrier is
locked and the xTRM has the same behavior as the iTRM.
The xTRM-2R dual-carrier mode is optional. This feature allows to use one xTRM
instead of two iTRMs in STSR2, STSR1+1, STSR3, or STSR2+1 configuration.
Contact your local Alcatel-Lucent representative for information about unlocking the
second carrier (the delivery of the WICL Scripts for xTRM Carrier Activation
(UMT/OMC/APP/015801) user guide is subject to the second carrier option payment).
Modules mixity
Alcatel-Lucent does not recommend to mix TRM/iTRM with xTRM modules within the
same Node B cabinet. In order to comply with this recommendation, newly ordered Node
B cabinets should only be equipped with xTRM modules. Concerning current Node B
equipment on customer Node B sites, if specific configurations require a mixity between
TRM/iTRM and xTRM modules, they must comply with the following mixity rules:
xTRM-2 can be mixed with TRM/iTRM/xTRM, provided the use of MCPA 45W or
MCPA 60W-A.
xTRM-1R, iTRM, TRM, and MCPA/MCPA-2/MCPA-3 can be mixed in the same
Node B cabinet.
Configurations mixing iTRM and xTRM-2R are allowed (not recommended). In those
configurations, the iTRM (not configured) is kept as a redundant resource in a
passive/not configured but supervised state.
Hardware description
The xTRM module consists of two boards:
The digital xTRM board (dxTRM):
The dxTRM performs interface functions to transmit/receive signal samples to/from
iCCM/iCCM-2/xCCM.
The downlink samples are transferred to up to six Tx channelizer Application Specific
Integrated Circuits (ASIC), which perform mainly pulse shaping, frequency shifting
and peak power reduction. Each ASIC can support one UMTS channel. The ASICs
can be cascaded so that the dxTRM transmits:
Three 1-carrier signals
or
Three 2-carrier signals
or
Two 3-carrier signals

Base-band signals are then processed to enable the pre-distortion of the radio signal,
according to the BBPD algorithm. Three PA feedback chains (one per PA) ensure the
down-conversion and Analog/Digital conversion of the RF TX signals to feed the
BBPD algorithm: this one compares the feedback samples to the transmit samples and
adjust automatically pre-distortion coefficients to minimize the error.
The BBPD processing function is set in transparent mode when xTRM is not
associated with MCPA 60W, but with conventional MCPA (i.e. not using external
feedback loops).
On the uplink, the xTRM allows the reception of up to six dual-carrier signals: it
manages the reception of two contiguous carriers on three sectors, including main and
diversity Rx paths. The dxTRM receives digital samples from the rxTRM (see next
bullet). These samples are digitally matched, filtered, and scaled by six Rx
channelizer ASICs, each one handling one main and one diversity signals.
The dxTRM retrieves configuration information and alarms via I2C buses from DDMs
and Tx splitter.
The radio xTRM board (rxTRM):
The rxTRM consists of three transmit chains and three dual-receive chains.
On Rx side, radio signals received from DDM are down-converted, filtered, scaled
and then Analog-to-Digital converted. The rxTRM receive function is designed for up
to two UMTS carriers.
On Tx side, the rxTRM performs Digital-to-Analog conversion, frequency
up-conversion and amplification in the downlink direction. The downlink signal
consists of up to three UMTS carriers.

Main functions
The C1OIM provides the following functions:
Duplex electrical/optical conversion of High Speed Serial Link (HSSL) at 1024 fc
to/from fiber optic link
Switch of HSSL channel on the active iCCM-2
Inventory via Dallas one-wire Bus
Reporting of optoelectronic transceiver Tx/Rx fault
Laser emission switch on/off via Dallas one-wire Bus
Detection of optoelectronic transceiver presence
Optical wavelengths (Tx 1, Rx 2) or (Rx 1, Tx 2) configuration via optical heads

In downlink, the C1OIM receives two HSSL links from the active and passive iCCM-2
via the fiber. The C1OIM sends its data stream to the optical transceiver, which converts
the signal into an optical one.
In uplink, the C1OIM optical transceiver converts the optical signal into electrical HSSL
link. The C1OIM sends the received bit streams to both iCCM-2 boards.
The C1OIM is designed to fill a CEM/TRM slot of the digital shelf.
The C1OIM has no microprocessor and no software processing capability. The C1OIM
devices (optical heads, LEDs) are driven by the iCCM-2 through GPxOIM board on a

Hardware description
The 9311 Macro V2 IDdigital shelf can host two C1OIM variants:
C1OIM equipped with Single-Mode (SM) SFP transceivers
This variant is dedicated to long distance connections (up to 10 km).
The optical receiver part of SFP transceiver is connected to one fiber carrying both
downlink and uplink signals using Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing
(CWDM): Single-Mode optical propagation is used.
C1OIM equipped with Multi-Mode (MM) SFP transceivers
This variant is dedicated to short distance connections (up to 500 m).
The optical receiver part of SFP transceiver is connected to two fibers (Multi-Mode
optical propagation is used). In this case, one fiber carries the downlink signal, the
other one the uplink signal (main and diversity digital streams are multiplexed into a
single HSSL stream).
The C1OIM is hosted in a dedicated 50-mm slot of the digital shelf.

Main functions
The C2OIM provides the following functions:
Duplex electrical/optical conversion of High Speed Serial Link (HSSL) to/from fiber
optic link
Inventory via Dallas one-wire bus
Presence detection for iCCM-2
Reporting alarms to the GPxOIM via Dallas one-wire bus: optic transceiver Tx Fault
and Rx Los, detection of optic transceiver presence
Laser emission on/off via Dallas one-wire bus
Detection of optoelectronic transceiver presence via Dallas one-wire bus
Optical frequencies (Tx 1, Rx 2) or (Rx 1, Tx 2) configuration via optical heads
in Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) cages.
DC fault detection via Dallas one-wire bus
HSSL loop-back control via Dallas one-wire bus
The C2OIM uses two - single or dual fiber - bidirectional optoelectronic SFP transceivers
to carry duplex digital and optical communications with an RRH:
Transmit wavelength is 1
Receive wavelength is 2
The C2OIM handles the optical transmission of two HSSL links in two bidirectional
optical fiber interfaces towards the RRHs.
In downlink, for each fiber, the C2OIM receives one HSSL link from each iCCM-2. The
C2OIM sends its data stream to the optical transceiver, which converts the signal into an
optical one.

Hardware description
The 9311 Macro V2 ID digital shelf can host two C2OIM variants:
C2OIM equipped with Single-Mode (SM) SFP transceivers
This variant is dedicated to long distance connections (up to 10 km).
The optical receiver part of SFP transceiver is connected to one fiber carrying both
downlink and uplink signals using Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing
(CWDM): Single-Mode optical propagation is used.
C2OIM equipped with Multi-Mode (MM) SFP transceivers
This variant is dedicated to short distance connections (up to 500 m).
The optical receiver, part of SFP transceiver, is connected to two fibers (Multi-Mode
optical propagation is used). In this case, one fiber carries the downlink signal, the
other one the uplink signal (main and diversity digital streams are multiplexed into a
single HSSL stream).
The C2OIM is hosted in a dedicated slot of the digital shelf equipped with a DBP602
digital backplane (slot 10). This slot is shared with the GPxOIM board.

GPxOIM board
Introduction
The GPxOIM board is embedded in the GPxOIM mechanics. It is located on the right
side of the 9311 Macro V2 ID digital shelf.
The GPxOIM board has the same functions as the GPSAM and compact GPSAM
(cGPSAM) housed in other cabinets of the Node B portfolio. The GPxOIM board is
similar to the cGPSAM: the same Printed-Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) is used. The
main differences between GPxOIM board and cGPSAM are the front panel height and
some slight changes on serigraphy.
The GPxOIM board only works with an Indoor 2 (current 9311 Macro V2 ID,
former UMTS BTS 12010-600-2)) and with a DBP602 digital backplane (optional).
Main functions
The GPxOIM board has two different functions:
Collection of information about the state of the 9311 Macro V2 ID: alarms, inventory
and presence of FRUs, commissioning
Supply of timing information
Depending on the FRU, the GPxOIM board collects:
Only alarms
Only inventory information
Both alarms and inventory information
The inventory and alarm collection process of the 9311 Macro V2 ID is based on the
Dallas one-wire bus.
Alarms, remote inventory information and commissioning information are collected
through this Dallas one-wire bus and stored by the GPxOIM board. The Dallas one-wire
bus is connected to the internal modules of the 9311 Macro V2 ID.
In this inventory and alarm collection process:
The GPxOIM board is the hardware master on the bus, under control of the iCCM-2
software.
The GPxOIM board physically drives several buses to all modules within the 9311
Macro V2 ID cabinet that provide inventory memory and alarms.
The C2OIM one-wire interface is used to control output I/O pins and allows the
iCCM-2 to manage the C2OIM remotely.

Functional modes
The three MCPA types include the following functional modes:
First mode
In this mode, the MCPAs operate in 45 W.
Second mode
In this reduced mode, the MCPAs operate in 30 W.
The functional mode is selected using specific commands.
The switching between the two modes when MCPA is in operational mode is possible
without passing by shutdown mode.
Operating mode
The MCPA supports the following operating modes:
Unknown mode
This mode is used to initialize the micro-controller of the MCPA. The MCPA is in
unknow mode just after the micro-controller reset.
Manual mode
This mode is activated without need of software commands. The manual mode is
effective if the MCPA is in unknown mode.
UMTS mode
This mode is the main operating mode for the MCPA. In this mode, the MCPA
responds to messages sent from the Node B interface (TRM) and reports informations
on Node B demand (TRM).
The MCPA 850 operates only with the xTRM 850.
Software download mode
This mode is effective in unknow mode and is initiated with a command message.
The MCPA download mode feature enables to deliver bug fixes on the field without
going on site.
In UMTS03, the MCPA software download allows to manage one MCPA software
release per MCPA manufacturer.
In UMTS04, the MCPA software download allows to manage all MCPA software
releases from all MCPA manufacturers.

MCPA 60W
Introduction
The MCPA 60W module has the following characteristics:
It uses the latest generation of hardware components.
It is located in the MCPA shelf, which can house up to six MCPA 60W modules.
It is used to amplify the Tx signal.
It operates within the following bandwidths:
UMTS 2100 (2110-2170 MHz)
UMTS 1700/2100 (2110-2155 MHz)
UMTS 850 (869-894 MHz)
It is designed to be used only with xTRM (not compatible with TRM or iTRM).
There are three versions of the MCPA 60W module:
MCPA 60W-A (for MCPA 60W-Autonomous)
MCPA 60W-B (for MCPA 60W-BBPD)
There are very few differences between the MCPA 60W-A and the MCPA 60W-B
modules. (See "Only with MCPA 60W-B" in following sections.)
Main functions
The MCPA 60W provides amplification of the RF signals delivered by the xTRM, but
only the MCPA 60W-B delivers feedback signals to the xTRM.
The MCPA 60W allows xTRM redundancy by providing two RF input ports and
switching capability.
The MCPA 60W delivers up to 60 watt nominal composite RF power in order to deliver
45 watt typical RF power to the Node B antenna port.
Only with MCPA 60W-B : compared to the MCPA 30/45W or MCPA 60W-A, the
MCPA 60W-B uses a new architecture based upon the Base Band Pre-Distortion (BBPD)
linearization processing located in the xTRM. This digital pre-distortion technology saves
hardware and improves reliability.
The MCPA 60W handles up to three UMTS carriers (15 MHz maximum instantaneous
bandwidth).
From a functional architecture point of view, the MCPA 60W consists of the following
parts:
One PA pallet

The PA pallet amplifies the selected RF signal coming from the xTRM output to the
required output level, and delivers feedback signals to the xTRM with the BBPD
algorithm ( only with MCPA 60W-B).

Main functions
The DDSM is made of one Transmit (Tx) filter and two Receive (Rx) filters.
The DDSM is inserted on the antenna diversity path.
Note: It can only be used when the antenna diversity path is not used for GSM Tx
path.
On the Tx path, the downlink signal is distributed through the DDSM, from the Node B
IN port to the Antenna OUT port.
On the Rx path, the uplink signal is distributed in two ways:
Through the DDSM (from the Antenna OUT port to the Rx OUT port) and then
through the GSM Rx Div path
Note: There is a DC path between the Antenna OUT port and the Rx OUT port to
support a GSM TMA.
Through the GSM Rx Main path, and then through the DDSM (from the Rx IN port to
the Node B IN port)

Multi PCM without IMA
The connection between the Node B and the RNC provides the following functions:
Up to 4 PCMs per Node B, each with its own UNI interface, between the Node B and
the Access Equipment (both RNC PCM and RNC SDH configurations are supported)
A single full or fractional PCM per Node B (possibly with Drop and Insert), or
multiple full PCMs (without Drop and Insert)
No redundancy management is currently supported
Limited defense to detecting VCC failures, cleaning up calls on those VCCs, and not
using them for future calls until they return to service

Figure 7-2 Transmission between Node B and RNC using the IMA over PCM
The Access Equipment provides a hub function (switching, routing) for the Node B. It is
located in small concentration hub sites like the Node B sites. It allows aggregating traffic
from several Node Bs. The Access Equipment offers more connectivity to the Node B
site.
The Access Equipment supports the following features:
Multi PCM
IMA on PCM E1/T1
Fractional E1/T1 to achieve Drop&Insert UMTS-UMTS and GSM-UMTS
Note: In case of Multi PCM without IMA feature, none of the Multi PCM can be
fractional. The fractional E1/T1 and Multi PCM without IMA features are not
compatible.

The drop and insert function implies the support of ATM over fractional E1 in the Node
B. The drop and insert function consists in the routing of data for other Node Bs through
the Node B. This is done through the routing of some PCM time slot from an incoming
PCM to an outgoing one.
