CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Issue Background


Chrysophyllum cainito is one of fruit that much found in the Jember city, that
fruit only grow in certain season. So that fruit called seasonal fruit. This fruit
cannot longlife when was mature, so when harvest is found many fruit which
depraved because this fruit was useless. A study showing that fruit is containing
antioxidant natural. This fruit have many benefits. So that we make a short paper
about description of Chrysophyllum cainito.

(2) What is the scientific classification of Chrysophyllum cainito?
(3) What are the benefits of Chrysophyllum cainito?

DISCUSSION

2.1 Description Of Chrysophyllum cainito

Chrysophyllum cainito is a tropical tree of the family Sapotaceae. It is
native to theGreater Antilles and the West Indies. It has spread to the lowlands of
Central America and is now is grown throughout the tropics, including Southeast
Asia. It grows rapidly and reaches 20 m in height. Sapodilla has a lot of name.
Such as it was called sawo ijo in Java, kenitu in East Java, sawo manila in
Lampung, and genitu in Madura. There are description of sapodilla:

(1) Roots : sapodilla has a rooted taprot


(2) Stems: a hard woody, astigmatism, erect, a rough surface, issued sap white
when were hurt.
(3) Leaves: a single leave, the colour top of leave is green and the bottom of
leave is brown, has long 9-14 cm and wide 3-5 cm, oval shaped, pinnate,
slightly stiff, and thick.
(4) Flower : the flower located in the armpit leaves, the flower live in 5-35
group florets flowers, long stemmed, the crown flowers tubular shaped,
petals 5 strands.
(5) Fruit : Fruit bunni like an eggs with diameters 5-10cm, the skin of the fruit
is slippery and thick, the colour of fruit is brown or green, flesh of fruit has
a white colour, soft, and sweet.
(6) Seed: the fruit has 3-10 seeds, oval shaped, flattened, hard, shiny, long 1 cm,
and brown colour.

2.3 The Benefits of Chrysophyllum cainito

(1) The fruit can decrease blood sugar concentration.


(2) Infusions of the leaves have been used against diabetes and
articular rheumatism.
(3) The fruit has anti-oxidant properties.
(4) The bark is considered a tonic and stimulant, and a bark decoction is used
as an antitussive.
(5) The fruit can reduce symptoms of muscle pain.
(6) The bark can reduce phlegm and cure cough.
(7) The trees as an ornamental and shade plant in the park.
(8) The branch used for media to grow orchid.
(9) The fruit for material to make ice cream.
(10) The wood strong enough to building materials.
(11) The lateks can repair the damaged teeth.

native to theGreater Antilles and the West Indies.
(2) Chrysophyllum cainito included in kingdom plantae, with the name of
species Chrysophyllum cainito.
(3) Chrysophyllum cainito have many benefits, one of them is the fruit has
anti-oxidant properties.

(1) The people must keep Chrysophyllum cainito tree, because this tree have
many benefits for our life.
(2) We dont ignore this fruit which many benefits for our life.
