What is a Kevlar
Kevlar is a distant relative to Nylon. The
fibers of Kevlar are woven together,
which is why Kevlar is so strong. Kevlar
is a plastic strong enough to stop
bullets and knives often described as
being five times stronger than steel on
an equal weight basis. It has many other
uses too, from making boats and
bowstrings to reinforcing tires and
brake pads.

Kevlar was invented in the early 1970s

as a replacement for steel developed by
DuPont in the 1930s. Kevlar was
introduced in 1970, having been
discovered in the early 1960s.

Stephanie Kwolek, she was an american
chemist whose career was at DuPont, a
company that made many products.
Stephanie earned a patent for her invention
with Paul Morgan in 1966.

What materials were originally used to make the product?

Kevlar was originally made with

para-aramid synthetic fiber, then
the fibers are spun and made into
sheets that can be used as an
ingredient in composite material.
How was the product originally made?
Kevlar was originally made by getting the para-aramid synthetic fibers, twisting
them into thin strands Combining with others to form a string then the strings are
woven together. So this process Is much like cotton.
What improvements have been made to the project?

Since kevlar was introduced it has been Kevlar Canoe

strengthened for uses such as Military,
Construction, Hockey, Motorcycle riding
and more . Kevlar can be combined with
epoxy and layers of kevlar to make a
hard shell to fit to molds such as boats,
ships, and cars.

more. Since Kevlar is so strong, yet light it

times stronger than steel
