BODY OF THE LESSON

10:20-10:30 Students will be introduced to their
final project. We will review the
requirements, deadlines, and weight of
the project.

1
10:30-11:00 Students will be shown examples of
mission statements, business names,
logos, and pitches using local examples,
examples from Shark Tank, and
national examples. Students will share
why they think each business is good or
bad.
11:00-11:35 Students will use the remainder of the
period to construct their own business
idea, name, logo, and mission
statement.

CLOSURE
11:35-11:45 Students will share how their business
plan will be successful in Kensington.
Students will be asked to volunteer to
read their mission statements.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Students with IEPs and/or 504-service agreements will be given necessary accommodations
based on these assignments, including one-on-one assistance and extra time. We will read the
directions to the assignments aloud to assist those who struggle with reading and vocabulary.
Students are given a writing template, making the writing process less intimidating and more
scaffold. I will be answering questions, asking probing questions, and providing help as
necessary for all students.

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
Students will be asked for input on whether or not they believe the examples of each business is
good or bad. Students will submit their drafts for their business ideas, logos, names and mission
statements at the end of the period. I will provide feedback as I review them.

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS / NOTES

Students were excited to come up with their own ideas. Some students did not feel confident
about their ideas after they were not accepted. Students must think of an idea that can be used
for the hipster community in Kensington, Fishtown, and Port Richmond.
