Dear Friend,
Greetings in the wonderful name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and from
everyone at our church in Torrington. This is the day the Lord has made for you and
me! It is a wonderful day, a day like no other. The Lord Jesus gave us life and peace.
A man was once asked, "How can you be at peace when people have done so
many bad things to you?" He answered, "It's easier to forgive because you only have
to do it once. But to hold onto unforgiveness is hard. You have to remember it every
day and it can become a weight that is too heavy to carry." That man had learned the
ways of peace. Jesus showed us many things, but forgiveness was one of the most
important examples He taught. Before we can go on to serve God we must learn this
valuable lesson. Forgiveness is a choice we make. You don't always feel like it. It
isn't always natural. To forgive someone for wronging you may be a difficult task,
but once the decision is made, it brings peace to your heart and relief to your spirit
like nothing else can do!
One of the greatest examples we read in Scripture is that of a woman who was
known throughout the town as a sinner. One day Jesus was invited to a Pharisee's
house for a meal, and while there, this woman had heard He would be there. She
came in unannounced and began to weep. She washed His feet with her tears and
wiped His feet with the hairs of her head. She then kissed His feet and began to
anoint them with the ointment of her alabaster box. "Now when the Pharisee which
had bidden Him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if He were a
prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that
toucheth Him: for she is a sinner." It seems to me that he had questions in his heart
about the Lord's identity, but she did not! She had done things wrong in her life for
sure, but this one thing she had right: she knew who Jesus was! The Pharisee had
done everything right in his life but he missed out on true worship because he didn't
know who he was worshiping. He didn't know who Jesus was. You can be kind to
your neighbors, pay your taxes, not complain when cut off on the highway, and give
to charities, but you can miss the whole point of abundant life by not knowing who
the Lord really is.
Jesus spoke up on her behalf by saying to the Pharisee, "There was a certain
creditor which had two debtors: the one owed 500 pence, and the other 50. And
when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me, therefore,
which of them will love him most? Simon (the Pharisee) answered and said, I
suppose that he, to whom he forgave the most. And He said unto him, Thou hast
rightly judged." The Bible tells us that we all have sinned and come short of the
glory of God. We all have come short of the mark of excellence at one time or
another. Some have sinned more, some less, but the sin, or fault, or mistakes,
weaknesses, or failures we all have, shows us that we all need the Savior. I am not
perfect, but I have met the One who is! The Lord forgave me of my sins! I frankly
had no way of paying Him back for all those things I did wrong. But He forgave me
completely, and He desires to save you, too! He is now my confidence, my strength,
my hope, and my comforter. He has never left me alone, even when I felt alone.
People will fail some times, programs come short, and life sometimes gets weary.
But Jesus never fails! He is our refreshing, our source of strength, our guide, our
confidence, and our righteousness.
If the Lord forgave me, I can forgive others. When He forgave that woman of
her sins that day, it was because she loved much. He said to the Pharisee, "...I say
unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to
whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And He said unto her, Thy sins are
forgiven." What wonderful words to hear: "My sins are forgiven!" As we have
received the gift, we can now give to others this same gift of forgiveness. He then
said to her, "Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace." Our salvation is not of good
works but by His grace and His grace alone. Salvation is a gift from God to you and
me. All we need do is receive it and walk free from there on out. May God bless you
alway as you follow in the Lord's footsteps.
I invite you to our church services. We meet at 624 Torringford West Street in
Torrington, CT. Our schedule of services is Sunday at 10 am and 7 pm, and

Rev. Daniel Bossidy
