PAIRED SAMPLE T TEST

1. Definition

Paired sample t test is testing the difference of average between two paired sample,
the function is used to test the mean difference for two independent samples (independent)
pairs. As is the pairing is data on the second sample is a change or a difference from the first
sample data, or in other words a sample with the same subject had two treatments.

2. Steps

1. Open a new worksheet in SPSS

2. Click the Variable View in SPSS Data Editor

3. In the Name field, type PRETEST in line one, POSTEST in line two, and CLASS
in line three

4. Select values in CLASS line, type 1.00 on value, type CONTROL CLASS on
label, then click add. Type again 2.00 on value, type EXPERIMENT CLASS on
label, then click add, and click OK.

5. Ignore the other columns

6. Click the Data View, the SPSS Data Editor

7. Type of data like the above data in accordance with the variable

8. Click the Analyze - Compare Means - Paired Samples T Test

9. Click variables PRETEST, then click POSTEST, enter into the box Paired Variable
(s), then the Paired Variable (s) visible sign .. Before After

10. For Options, use a confidence level of 95% or 5% significance level, click
Continue

11. To end click OK.

3. Output

The Output will showed below.

4. Intrepretation of Output
Output Part One (Group Statistics)

In this first part presents a description of the pair analyzed variables, which include the
average (mean) PRETEST 35.25 with standard deviation of 9.60195 and POSTEST an
average of 59.45 with a standard deviation of 5.83524

Output Part Two (Correlations)

This section obtained correlation results between the two variables, which gives the figure
0,995 with a probability value (sig.) 0.000. It is claimed that the correlation between
POSTEST and PRETEST significantly related, because the probability value <0.05.

Output Part Three (Paired Samples Test)

Hypothesis:

* Ho = nothing difference between average of PRETEST and POSTEST

* H1 = have difference between average of PRETEST and POSTEST

DECISION-MAKING:

A. Based on the comparison between tcount with ttable

* If the count statistics> statistics table, then Ho is rejected

* If the statistics count <statistical table, then Ho is accepted

Count statistic can calculated by using the formula of

d 108.225
t= s / n = 3.84708 = -28.13

While statistical data tables searched in Table t:

Level of significance (a) is 5% or 95% believe level

df (degree of freedom) or degrees of freedom is n-1 or 20-1 = 19

From the table t, in can figure = 1.729

Decision:

Therefore t is subject Ho is accepted, it can be concluded that the average of POSTEST and
PRETEST is not have difference.
ONE SAMPLE T TEST

1. Definition

One sample t test with SPSS Test is Test average difference of the sample, one sample
t test is useful to know the differences in the average value of the population used as a
comparison with the average of a sample. From the results of this test will be known whether
the population mean is used as a benchmark significantly different significantly with an
average of a sample, if there is an average difference which one is higher.
2. Steps

1. Open a new worksheet in SPSS

2. Click the Variable View in SPSS Data Editor

3. In the Name field, type PRETEST in line one, POSTEST in line two, and CLASS
in line three.

8. Click the Analyze - Compare Means One Sample T test

9. Enter variable PRETEST on contact Test Variable (s)

11. Type the number 49.95 on Value Test box

12. Click Options, type the value of the confidence interval used in the Confidence
Interval in this case let it defaults to 95%

13. Click OK to terminate the command

3. Output

The output will showed below

One-Sample Statistics

N Mean Std. Deviation Std. Error Mean

PRETEST 20 35.2500 9.60195 2.14706

Difference

t df Sig. (2-tailed) Mean Difference Lower Upper

PRETEST -11.271 19 .000 -24.20000 -28.6938 -19.7062

4. Intreretation of Output
A. Based on the comparison between tcount with t tabel
If the statistics count <statistical tables, then ho rejected
If the count statistics> statistics table, then Ho is accepted
t t count can calculated by this formula
xu 0 35.2559.45 24.2
s / n = 17.08793 / 20 = 9.60195 = -11.265

and t table can see in table

The level of significance () is 5% or 95% level of confidence
df or degrees of freedom is n-1 or 20-1 = 19
So from table, t table is 1.729
decision:
Therefore t count in the region H0 rejected, it means that the average of
PRETEST is less than average of POSTEST
