ACTIVITY REPORT

JULY 2009 – JUNE 2010


 Participation in Srebrnica March in Bosnia. Preparing for the departure

partecipants met experts of Bosnia history and nowadays times, they

learnt language, read books and discussed about them.

 Participation in ‘Choiceless & Vioceless’ project in Berlin, concerning the


election.

 Integration and organizational meeting of organization and School of

Animators (trainings for workshop trainers) in Milenkowce (Poland,

near the Belarus border).

July - August
 Workshop for high-school students and univeristy students and the
‘On-line Science Festival Magazine’ (7th edition, texts, records and
photos; on-line and paper magazine).

 End of workshops for high-school and secondary-school students


during the ‘History Witness’ project, publication of book with
interviews done by participants of project. Project was created with
cooperation with The Foundation for Polish-German Reconciliation.

 Public meeting with dr Michael Haltzel concerning military intervention

USA, Guantanamo and the death penalty.

 Cooperation on European Day against the Death Penalty, our


members contribute to a 4 page insert newspaper to the national
newspaper „Metro”.

‘Successful Strategies for Creative Internet Activities’ public seminar

with the special guest Anne Nelson, academic teacher of the new media at

the Columbia University.

Opening of new seasons of our permanent activities:

 Thursday's club – the longest project of ‘Polis' workshop project


manages with cooperation of „Wirydarz” group against antisemitism and
ksenophobia. Weekly meetings concerned about journalistic workshop and
up to date subjects with journalists, reporters, activists and travelers.

 Prison workshops – continuation of cooperation (consultations and

workshops) with editorial „Remedium”, published by people on detention

under remand in Warsaw.

 on-line magazine „Domysły” (9th edition); event magazine for
International film festival Watch Docs. Human Rights in Film (70 people,
160 texts, records and videos; on-line and paper magazine).

December
 Meeting and discussion about book 'In the shadow of the holy book' of

A. Halonen and K. Frazier.

 Start of Horizon – against the death penalty group. The group is

working for the abolition in the world and the change of popular opinion in

Poland that the death penalty should be legal.

 Start of two editorial groups – the main subject of 1st is the death

penalty and of the 2nd – science.

February-March
 Like every year we've produced „Motiv” magazine, an event magazine for
the International Jewish Film Festival Jewish Motivs (7th edition, 15
people, texts, records and videos; on-line and paper magazine).

April
 Meeting with W. Górecki, author of reportages from Georgia, Armenia

and Azerbaijan 'Toast to ancestors'

 Meeting and discussion about book 'Sonnenschein' of D. Drndic, with A.

Haska (anthropologist of the culture) and D. J. Ćirlić (translator of book).

 Workshop for leaders of „Polis” projects

 Integration on a weekend-meeting of organization

 End of the My Science Programme for Young Journalists (until June 2010) –
European programme co-managed by Polis, during this programme young
journalists interested in science (from chemistry and mathematics to
humanitarian science) made calls on a week training on six European science
institutes (Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic and Austria). 85 participants from 20
countries had opportunity to meet scientist and learn about their research.

June
July-August
 Journalistic internships in Gazeta Wyborcza local redactions all over Poland.

 Workshops for high-school and secondary school students during 8 summer

camps.

September
 Start of the new edition of the multimedia workshops for secondary school and high

school students.

 The ‘On-line Science Festival Magazine’ – 18-26 September 2010.

October

 New season of workshops for students - Thursdays Club.
