Essays are written for teachers. Use formal language (no contractions). Do not be emotional.
All essays have
an introduction: explain what you are writing about so the reader is prepared
the body : gives facts about the subject
conclusion: this is where you write your opinion or recommendation
There are 3 different types of essays; informative, for and against and opinion.
Informative essay: gives the reader facts about a particular subject or thing.
For and against: explains the advantages and disadvantages.
Opinion: explains why you have this opinion using facts
Opinion essay
Introduction: Some people believe.. (opposite of what you believe).
While this may be true, I feel that (your opinion about the subject)
Body: write 2 or 3 facts that support your opinion. Each fact should be 2-3 lines. Write the fact and
explain why you think its good/bad
First of all/ Firstly Because of this.
In addition/ Secondly For example,.
Finally/ Besides that,. Therefore I agree/disagree that
Conclusion: summarize the main meaning of the body in 1-2 sentences. Then write 1-2 sentences
giving your opinion again.
All in all, as I see it Due to. Many peoples lives have changed for the
better/worst.
Personally, I still feel that
Body: give 2 or 3 reasons for peoples opinions and say why. In the first part write the point of view you
disagree with. In the second part write the point of view you agree with.
On the one hand, .(the thing) is/are It helps us to Besides that,..
On the other hand,..(the thing) is/ are . People cannot Moreover,, In addition..
Conclusion: write a sentence to resume everything in the body.Then you can write your opinion.
To sum up, although.(the meaning of on the one hand), I feel that .(meaning if on the other
hand)
Personally, I believe that (the thing) is something + we should all try (to do) at least once in our lives /
best avoided at all costs.
Information essay
Introduction: 1-2 sentences.Say what the thing is and a sentence to give its main use/function
Body: write 2.3 facts about the subject. Each fact should have an explination.
1. (The thing) was establishd/ started/invented by (someone) in .(a time).
It is (description of what it is)
2. Say why the thing is useful. (The thing) helps It is needed for.
3. Say another use. Say how often it happens/ is used..
