MISERABLE STUDYING IN HONG KONG LEVEL 3

I think that Hong Kongs educational system with its policies and exams is the worst! A lot of
people have been complaining about it for a long time. However, the government does not
respond to the complaints.
I'm an F6 student from Hong Kong and I realize how the education system is only focused on the
public exam. I'm not going to tell you what my feelings are, but I want to share with you what is
actually happening to students in Hong Kong.
The public exam DSE should be used to assess what you have learned in school. However, the
Hong Kong's education system is different. Studying in Hong Kong means "learning" how to
handle the public exam instead of acquiring real knowledge. It means the curriculum is based on
the exam. It is totally ridiculous.
In my opinion, learning must be based on interest. If you are not interested in what you are doing
or what you are learning, you can't do it well. In Hong Kong, we just prepare for the DSE in the
classroom. This is meaningless. We are only taught the skills we need to pass the exam. Why do
we need to learn these?
This is because the Hong Kong exam is not used to assess your knowledge but to assess your
skills of passing exams. For example, in an English writing paper, you'll need to use phrases and
vocabulary that are not commonly used. If you don't use these phrases and difficult words, you'll
just get a low mark and fail the exam.
As a result, students in Hong Kong can't really acquire knowledge at school. What we learn is not
useful for us. We can't learn what we are really interested in. It is not under our control. We have
no choice but to pass the exam.

THE WAY FROM BEING A BARTENDER TO YOGA AND BUDDHISM. MRIA - HUNGARY

I would like to introduce my younger sons story because he lives his life the way which would be
my dream if I were his age.

After finishing high school, Andrew decided to try his luck abroad because unfortunately young
people have small opportunities in our country. He has been working as a waiter in hotels and
cruise ships till he got a bartender position. This job required a lot of work, especially at night s and
brought about a sparkling lifestyle. He was rising through the ranks continuously and seemed to
be satisfied with his perspectives.

After about one year it was time to take a rest, so he organized a long-term trip to South-East Asia
together with his girlfriend. They travelled round Thailand, Cambodia and India. It would make
another story to detail their experiences, but the point is, that fell in love with India and yoga. He
did a four-week course for the first time. (His girl-friend did not like it at all, so she flew home.
Unfortunately, it was the end of their relationship, but all in all, they were not really matching.) By
the time he finished the course, he had realized that he preferred such a quiet, peaceful,
contemplative way of life more than the Western hustle and bustle, skin-deep living. Vegetarian
diet, regular meditation practices and at least 5 hours a day of yoga training resulted in his
increased feeling of well-being and consciousness.

According to our recent Skype conversations, it seems he is enjoying every moment of his life. We
havent heard from him for two weeks, because he has begun a two-year yoga teacher course in a
world-famous centre in a beautiful ashram at the foot of the Himalayas where retreating from
internet is required for the first four weeks of the training.
DOES HIGH-TECH BRING HAPPINESS? JULIO - SPAIN

Its believed that breaking new technologies offer a bed of roses to their users, but nothing could
be further from the truth. Nowadays, they may be a dangerous addition to our lives. Not only do
they help us, but they could also hook us up changing our routines or lifestyle.

To make matters worse, some devices like mobiles are not safe enough to carry. Thus, please
check your daily routines and the safety of your own items. At this stage, according to some
experts, behavioral addictions are coming up more and more in our stressful lifestyle, especially if
you are a teenager.

Today, the biggest networking place is the Internet; one-to-one or one-to-many communications
are running every single day. Young people live indoors, in front of their little screens 24/7. Its
easy to guess why their lack of interpersonal skills or develop obesity.

On the other hand, lets move on to the topic of safety. To my regret, some models of mobiles dont
have enough qualities to carry on. Have you ever thought about the design, safety, and portability
of your phone? In fact, we are carrying a small stone in our pockets. Dont you think so?
