One of the characteristics of a good accountant is punctuality. Please be in your seat when I start
the class. I will accept lateness if you have an interview that has run over. Otherwise, I expect
you to be on time.

Another quality of an accountant is the ability to communicate verbally. 60 points are based on
your contribution to the class. These points will be assigned based on how prepared you are for
class, as shown by how you answer questions when I call on you, and on your volunteering to
answer or ask questions in class. I hope you will contribute to the class by asking or answering
questions. Please do not wait for me to call on you. Raise your hand and volunteer. Please note
that you must be in attendance to demonstrate either of these.

Individuals need to embrace the realization that taking risks and failing are often the
essential moves necessary to bring clarity, understanding, and innovation. By making a
mistake, we are led to the pivotal question: "Why was that wrong?" By answering this
question, we are intentionally placing ourselves in a position to develop a new insight and
to eventually succeed. (Burger, 2012)1

PREPARATION OF HOMEWORK All homework answers must be typed. I will not accept
homework that is hand written. You do not have to type the questions just give the answers.
When you answer the multiple choice questions, it is not sufficient to just select the correct
answer. I want a brief explanation of why you chose that answer and, if appropriate, what was
wrong with each of the other answers. It is not acceptable to jot down notes as an answer. It is

also not acceptable to simply type the letter of the answer without any explanation. The answer
should be organized in a clear, coherent manner. Failure to follow these instructions will cause
you to lose valuable points on the homework assignments.

The homework assignments and class notes are your best tools for studying for exams. Please do
your best work in their preparation. It will pay off at exam time. You may make notes and mark
up your homework as much as you wish. I will return all collected homework at the beginning
of the next class. I do not accept late homework. If you must miss class, I will accept homework
emailed to me before class or handed in by another student.

Please make sure you do the right assignments in the correct manner. Please do not assume
anything this semester or misread the syllabus. If you have doubts, please ask questions.

There are no makeup exams in this class. If you must miss an exam for a legitimate reason, your
next exam will count double.

When you come to class, please remember to turn off your cell phones and put them away during
class. Please do not read or send text messages in class.
