Virgin Mary is given honor in the Christian faith as

Holly Spirit. St. Mary is the descendant of King
David and Judass tribe. The New Testament tells LIFE AFTER DEATH
little of Mary's early history. Her parents are named
Joachim (Yovagim) and Anne (Hanne). When she THE HISTORY OF THE 3
was three years old, her parents took her to the DAYS LENT IN OUR
temple of God as they vowed and they died. CHURCH
The Gospels of St. Mathew and St. Luke says that YOUTH GROUP
Mary was a young woman who was engaged to be ACTIVITIES
married to a man called Joseph.

The Gospel of Luke says that the chief of angels, Gabriel came to Mary to announce to
her that she would give birth to a Son and she should call him Jesus and that he would
save people from their sins. Mary said "How can this happen to me? I am a virgin!" The
angel said "With God, anything can happen! When Joseph found out that Mary was
pregnant, he thought about what he should do. If he married her, he would be unclean.
He decided to privately break the engagement. But then he had a dream. An angel told
him that the baby was THE SON OF GOD.

At this time, the Roman Emperor, Caesar Augustus, made a law that everyone in the
Roman Empire must pay tax. Everyone had to go back to the town that their family
came from, to have their name put on the tax lists. Joseph came from Bethlehem, which
was called THE CITY OF DAVID. Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem and she gave birth
to the baby, Jesus, in an animal shed, because there was no room for them.

According to the tradition of our church, Virgin Mary, the THEOTOKOS, died, after
having lived a holy life. The surviving apostles were present and conducted her funeral.
However Thomas was delayed and arrived a few days later. He said that he would not
believe this had happened unless he saw the body of Mary. Peter expressed dismay that
Thomas continued to doubt what the other apostles told him. Upon opening the tomb,
Thomas revealed that he had witnessed the absent body of the THEOTOKOS being
taken to heaven by angels. Though every Orthodox Christian believes this to be true, ALSO READ
our church has never formally made it a doctrine. It remains a holy mystery. The Syriac
Orthodox Church celebrates this event on the 15th of August. This was around 56 A.D. "FALLING LEAVES"
in sounder novels, after she had lived most probably 70 years.

"FALLING LEAVES"
My eyes became moist the first time I saw them fall
It looked like the great hold of security had given way
The leaves had been the part of the tree
Giving it its grandeur and pride among everything else

I waited and watched every day

Wishing the leaves would get up and join the tree again
My thoughts of a miracle did fade with every day
With every moment which made the leaves wither away

As the leaves withered I noticed new ones sprouting out

Giving the tree a new look and a new chapter to play
I kept wondering whether they could replace the old ones
And bring back the ones withering away

With time the old leaves disappeared into the background

And I knew there was a reason for this way
The new leaves didnt replace the old ones
Instead they taught me a whole new story to say

The primary idea behind having this Newsletter

was to give all our Parish members an opportunity
to express and share their ideas and thoughts with
everyone. But it is very unfortunate that even
though having more than 100 parish members and
constant reminder nearly every Sunday by Achen,
we are struggling to have sufficient materials for
every edition. If everyone makes an effort to
contribute we will never be short of material. You
can share anything eg: a piece that you read and
found interesting and want to share it with
everyone, your experience etc.

Hence it is a humble request to everyone to make a

conscious effort to contribute otherwise our
Newsletter will cease to exist.
