Lesson plan class nº 15.

2 periods: giving opinions (first part).


Date: June, 16th. 2010. Level: 3º M

Skill: Oral

Expected Outcomes: the students establish general ideas about their topics for the debates.

Resources: whiteboard – student’s notebooks.


Time Comments

Introduction 15 min. The teacher calls the row- greetings –writes down the date- etc.
The teacher asks to the groups for the debate to seat together.
- She also explains the instruction for a work that has to be given
next Friday.
Core of the class

Pre- stage 20 min. The teacher explains to the students different ways to express
opinions, apart from the typical “I think…”
She provides some examples on the whiteboard, and asks them
some specific question in order to give them the opportunity to
practice the learnt structures.
Then asks to the groups to make a general reflexion about their
topics and writes down it in a conceptual map. It has to be given
to the teacher at the end of the class.

While- Stage 35 min. The students work in groups, doing the task that the teacher
assigned. While the teacher check some works to give them back.

Post-stage 15 min. The teacher checks what the students have done, making general
suggestions if they have to improve something or not. They have
to complete it and give it to her.

Closing 5 min. The teacher explains the organization for the next classes.
The class has finished.

1 period: giving opinions (recuperative)


Date: June, 18th. 2010. Level: 3º M

Skill: Oral

Expected Outcomes: the students establish general ideas about their topics for the debates.

Time Comments

Introduction 10 min. The teacher calls the row- greetings –writes down the date- etc.
The teacher asks to the groups for the debate to seat together.
- She also explains the instruction for a work that has to be given
next Friday.
Note: all this class was supposed to be done last Wednesday, but
since that day we had to make changes in the activity (because of
the Chilean match), this class is going to be done today but with a
shorter explanation because we have only a single period of class

2 periods: outline for the debates.


Date: June, 23rd. 2010. Level: 3º M

Skill: Oral

Expected Outcomes: the students get informed about their topics for the debates, and can
establish whether if they are for or against.

Resources: whiteboard – computers (internet) – handout (what is an outline) – handout


(information about each topic)
Time Comments

Introduction 15 min. The teacher calls the row- greetings –writes down the date- etc.
The teacher explains to the class that there had been some
changes in the groups of the debates (since one of the students
has gone to other country). She names the new groups.
She also reminds them that next class they should bring their
creative works all finished.
Core of the class

Pre- stage 20 min. The teacher explains what students have to do this class, which
consists on writing an outline about their topics for the debates.
For that purpose, the teacher gives every group a handout with
information about small talking skills and writing outlines. She
explains that briefly.
Then, asks the students to go downstairs to the computer lab.
There, they have to search on the internet and write down their
outlines.
* If there aren’t enough students to work in groups, the teacher is
While- Stage 40 min. going to ask them to work with some written information, instead
of going to the lab.

that the teacher assigned them. While she goes around the groups
checking if they understand what they should work on.

1 period: presenting creative works (My book of English)


Date: June, 25th. 2010. Level: 3º M

Skill: Oral

Expected Outcomes: the students present their own books of English, which contain all their
creative works.

Resources: whiteboard – student’s ppt presentation – data show.


Time Comments

Introduction 5 min. The teacher calls the row- greetings –writes down the date- etc.
The teacher installs the data show and all the devices needed for
the presentations.

Core of the class


Pre- stage 5 min. The teacher tells to the students that today they are going to
present their “books”. Teacher explains what they have to explain
while presenting.
Volunteer students go first always.

While- Stage 20 min. The students present their works, while the rest of the class and
the teacher listen respectfully.
The guide teacher provides them some feedback at the end of
each presentation.

Post-stage 10 min. The presentation finishes


Student teacher provides feedback at the end of them. Talking to
each student who has presented.

Closing 5 min. The teacher explains what the missing students have to do to
obtain a good grade of the presentation

2 periods: writing the essays.


Date: June, 30th. 2010. Level: 3º M

Skill: writing

Expected Outcomes: the students transfer ideas from their outlines to the essays.

Resources: whiteboard – student’s written outline – information of each topic (printed handout)
Time Comments

Introduction 10 min. The teacher calls the row- greetings –writes down the date- etc.
She explains that it is necessary to check something about the
final grades.

Core of the class


Pre- stage 20 min. The teacher tells to the student who is pending with some works,
who is ready. What to do to recover grades, etc.
And she gives students the instruction for the workshop for this
class, which consist on writing the essay based on the arguments
that they have considered in their outlines.

While- Stage 40 min. The students work in group on their essays, while the teacher
goes around the classroom checking if they are working well,
giving feedback. Etc.

Post-stage 15 min. The teacher asks the students to give her their essays to check
them. She checks them and asks the group to get prepared for
next class to explain to the class what these essays are about. If
there are some groups who don’t finish it they have to deliver
their essays finished next class.

Closing 5 min. - The teacher recast the instruction for next class.
- Congratulates for the class participation.
- The class has finishes.
Lesson plan class nº 20.

1 period: oral presentations (“debates”) * and 2 extra period for completing the missing works.
Date: July, 2nd. 2010. Level: 3º M

Skill: writing

Expected Outcomes: the student demonstrates the capacity to summarize and recast
information related with their investigation for the debates.

Resources: whiteboard – data show- written essays- ppt presentation (books)


Time Comments

Introduction 10 min. The teacher calls the row- greetings –writes down the date- etc.
She installs the data show and all the necessary devices for the
class.
Core of the class
Pre- stage 5 min. The teacher explains that the first period will be for the students
who have not presented their “books” yet, they have to do it.
Then, they are going to have 2 extra periods to present their
works of the debates. (The history’s teacher gave up his
periods of class for it.)

While- Stage 30 min. The students who are pending with their books present their ppt
books to the class. The teacher gives the appropriate feedback
and congratulations to each student.
The rest of the period the groups who haven’t finished their
essays yet can work on that. For the next period it has no be
ready.

Post-stage 15 min. -The teacher checks the essays, gives the corresponding feedback
to the students and assigns them the appropriate percentage.
50 min. - the groups present their “debate”, which consist on explaining
what they have investigated about the topic, say whether if they
are for or against and why, and finally invite their classmates to
participate in a sort of debate. Each group has to draw a
conclusion for their topic at the end of each presentation. 15 min
for each group for the whole task. It would be exposed in Spanish
if they want.

Closing 15 min. - The teacher gives the corresponding feedback to each group,
and tells them their percentage obtained.
- Finally, the teacher works out the final grades of each student.
- She gives the students the grades and they are free to go.
