DESIGN PARAMETERS

1. PRODUCT DIMENSIONES
Holedeck is modulated according to a distance
between centres of 80 x 80 cm. It allows
accommodating facilities and elements designed for
standard roofs of 60 cm.

The standard edge is 45 cm. Compression layer

varies from 5 to 10 cm depending on the span and
the loads that the slab has to support.

Holedeck perforations have an area of 0.067 m2. It is possible the simultaneous passage of diferents
services systems.

2
2. SPANS

Holedeck supports spans between

7.5 m and 12.5 m. For longer
spans will be necessary post-
tensioning in 1 to 2 directions.

Spans = 7,5 12,5 m

Short spans (7,5 9 m) Standard spans (9 10,5 m) Long spans (10,5 12 m)

3
3. CANTILEVER
Latticework overhang
Holedeck is perfect for the attainment
of different types of cantilevers:
latticework, passable or habitable
overhangs

Habitable overhang

SECTION DETAIL.
RESOLUTION OF OVERHANGS

The maximum length of the

cantilever is 4.5 m.
However it will depend on
different factors:

Spans
Permanent loads.
Variable loads.

4
4. PILLARS POSITION
The correct distribution of pillars for a waffle slab pathway is to form a grid as regular as possible, with spans
that differ less than 1 meter. It is important that the supports are attainment separate to the slab edges.
Holedeck, however, supports any distribution of the pillars, facilitating a freedom design and avoiding the
problems of fit a reasonable and compatible structure with partitions.

5
5. ABACUS
It is not necessary to off-hook the abacus. It will be always
embedded in the thickness of the slab, without
acknowledging their presence clambering underneath

As a minimum we recommend an
abacus dimension of 0.10 L. This
measure will change depending on
the next parameters or factors:
- Geometric requirements of
modulation and staking parts.
- Edge pillars and overhangs.
- Spans decompensation
- Localized loads

3 x 3 (short spans) 4 x 4 (standard spans) 5 x 5 (long spans)

Depending on the regulations it

will be possible to replace the
abacuses by beams. Perforations
will be able to be made in the
beams before the spill of the
concrete.

6
6. HOLES
Holedeck supports holes with the measures indicated in the following image, depending on the distance to
the pillars:

For more complex holes it would be necessary to make a preliminary analysis; it is impossible to establish
fixed rules that solve all cases. However, it is recommended to extend the beams which border the gaps to
the pillars if it is possible; if it were not possible, anchor them in the abacus or solvents areas nerves.

Smaller holes can be made putting a special

part in the cuvette before pouring the
concrete. These holes are perfect for passing
facilities or allow the passage of the solar
light.

7
7. LOAD BEARING WALLS

In the cases which load bearing walls instead of

pillars, it will not be necessary to made abacuses to
resist the punching efforts.

8. PARTITIONS UNION

It is recommended that the partitions be in the

structural nerves or in the solid parts of the
slab.

1 Auxiliary part
2 Acoustic Band
3 Partition

In any case, you can resolve it putting false

ceiling in the pertinent area

9. STRUCTURAL PARAMETERS
Resistance to bending: the inertia of the section, compared with the
same area of a conventional reinforced concrete slab is 18 times
greater.
Horizontal seismic Digs: compared to conventional waffle slab
HOLEDECK reduces its weight by around 15%. This causes the
horizontal thrust in case of earthquake decrease by 8 to 10%.

HOLEDECK VERSIONS

1. POST-TENSIONED HOLEDECK

With the post-tensioning system Holedeck can span up to 18 meters. Post-tensioning can be in one or both
directions.

2. ONE-WAY HOLEDECK 3. TRIANGULAR WAFFLE

SPATIAL POSIBILITIES AND DESIGN EXAMPLES

HOLEDECK allows almost total freedom in the design of floor plans. In the table are given just a few ideas of
the possibilities offered by:

11
GLOSARY

Span: distance between two parallel and consecutive lines of supports.

Supports band: it is the slab band of the slab with wide to each side of the support equal
to 0,25 L2. The support bands include the beams, in case of existing.
Central band: she is the limited one by two bands of supports. .
Abacus: zone of a slab around a support or its capital that is made solid with or without
rebound. In solid slabs it cant exist and, if it exists, it can go accompanied of a capital. In
waffle slabs its existence is mandatory, being able to go accompanied or not of capital.
Capital: widening of the superior end of a support that serves as union between this one
and the slab.
Cantilever: end of a structural element that stand out the wall or element that maintains
them and that has possibility of turn and displacement.
Post tensioned concrete: concrete that is put under tension by means of cables inserted
in its cases, once this one has hardened.
Beam/traverse: structural element that is placed horizontally and served as support of
loads of other structural elements.
Edge beam: beam located between two structural pillars and that serves to support the
edge of a cover or built the framework for.
Edge: thickness of the forged one.
Bucket: recoverable mold of formwork for the accomplishment of waffle slabs.
Punching: failure of a firm one under the effect of one loads direct excessive, that causes
a collapse located of the firm one in the load point. The effort of punching in a piece is
caused by tractions due to the tangential tensions produced by a load or reaction located
in a small surface of a bidirectional concrete element, around the support.
