It is a tributary of Forcados River, the western branch of River Niger in the Delta
area of Southern Nigeria. Its source is lake Ewuru (6.4N, 6.30E) in Oshimili South
local area and its confluence is at Asaba-Ase (5.20N; 6.17) in Ndokwa East local
government area, Delta State. The river is approximately 292 kilometres in length
(Arimoro, Ikomi and Efemuna, 2007). and flows through freshwater swamp and
swampy forests of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
The width of Ase River (using ArcGIS and Google Maps ranges from 70 metres to
120 metres).
The standard oil industry barge (ca. 40,000 bbls capacity) is about 200 feet long
and 50 feet wide (16 metres), and can be used with a 9-foot draft. Its suitability with
Ase River is positive considering this, although there is skeletal information
regarding the depth of Ase River. However, dredging companies can provide
dredging services should depth be the constraint.
Vegetation around Ase River
There is a road from Ozoro to Ase community and Ase is also accessible. Ase river
also has a ferry for public transportation
