1 Introduction

1.1 What is this CD ?

It is a digital representation of the complete Guide to Port Entry - 2007/2008 Edition.

1.2 Is this CD the same as The Guide on CD ?

No. The Guide on CD is sold commercially by Shipping Guides Ltd and its distributors
worldwide. It contains advanced search functions, a map based interface option and ancillary
software for distance tables, tidal calculations and chart folio management. It is also updated
quarterly for subscribers, to ensure timely access to the latest port information.

1.3 I thought I was going to receive 2 CD's. Where is the second one ?
This is the first of a set of two CD's. A second, update, CD will be produced for distribution during
the second year of the valid data life of the "Guide to Port Entry". The second CD will only be sent
to registered users and to register you must complete and return the tear-out form at the front of
Guide to Port Entry.

2.3 Where can I purchase a copy ?

You can buy Guide to Port Entry direct from Shipping Guides or from one of our many resellers

3 Adobe Acrobat

3.1 What is Adobe Acrobat ?

Adobe Acrobat Reader is an industry standard page viewer. Shipping Guides have chosen
Acrobat Reader as the display engine for CD versions of its information. We believe that it is
the most suitable engine for our use.

Acrobat Reader displays information as pages in a similar manner to a book. How those
pages are formatted is decided by the publisher, in this case Shipping Guides. You then see
the pages as we intended them to be seen.

The Acrobat Reader software is freely available and is included on the CD. Because Adobe
allow it to be distributed free of charge, the software cost to the end user is kept low.

3.2 How do I use the software

An Adobe Acrobat Reader icon will be installed on your desktop, labelled CDContents.
Double clicking on this will bring up on screen the appropriate document. From this document
you can find various links, including an index to, and contents of, a desired port.

When the user requests to view information on a port, the Acrobat Software will display two
window frames. The left side window displays bookmarks of all ports in the selected country
(The cursor will display as a pointer in this window). The right side window displays the full
page as laid out in Guide to Port Entry(The cursor will display as an open hand in this window).

Bookmarks

The Bookmarks in the left hand window allow quick access to the individual ports. Simply click
on the desired port and the full text for the will be displayed on the right hand window. The
first three bookmarks in the list have special significance:

The first bookmark will display the Table of Contents.

The second bookmark will display the Index

The subsequent bookmarks will display information.

If the Bookmark window is too narrow, it can be widened by positioning the cursor over the
frame divider between the two windows. When positioned properly the cursor will change to
two vertical lines with arrows pointing outward. When the cursor has changed, hold down the
left mouse button and drag it to the left or right to change the size of the windows.

3.3 Which version of Acrobat is shipped on this CD ?

The installer for the Adobe Acrobat Reader is on the CD in the acroread folder.

How do I do a full text search on the data contained on this CD ?

First you need to tell Acrobat Reader which index to search. With Reader running and active,
choose Edit|Search|Select Indexes (Ctrl+Shift+X). A dialog box entitled "Index Selection",
which should show any indexes in use (or none). Click Add (Ctrl + a) and browse to the index
folder on this CD. Select the "index" file (not folder) and click "Open" (Alt + o). You should be
returned to the "Index Selection" with a new index available entitled "Guide to Port Entry - CD
Index". Click OK.

Next choose Edit|Search|Query (Ctrl+Shift+F) and type in the text you wish to search for.
Click Search and after a short delay a "Search Results" dialog will open indicating a list of
documents containing the text which you searched for.

For information on this and other Acrobat Topics, choose Help|Acrobat Guide from the
Acrobat Reader menu.

3.4 I want to continue using my current Acrobat Reader installation with this
CD
On this CD we supply the current version of the Acrobat Reader. This should be installed for
the system to work correctly. You can continue to use other versions as well should you so
wish, however only one version may be running at any one time. By default, the supplied
version will install in either:

C:\program files\adobe\acrobat(x)\reader or
In the folder where the previous same Version was installed

If you have a version of Acrobat Reader other than the supplied version, it is unlikely to have
been installed in one of the above locations. You should therefore be able to continue using it if
you so wish. However, the data on this CD will not be accessible from such software.

If a newer version of Acrobat Reader is commercially released within the next year, we will
try to make available on our website, a patch which will allow the data to be viewed with this
newer version. Please visit www.portinfo.co.uk and select Support for details.

Also see section 4.1.2 below.

3.5 Why can't I view the supplied files using the full version of Acrobat ?
Thats what I normally use, not the free Reader.
Please see the answer to Question 3.4 above. The software is supplied free of charge with the
Guide to Port Entry publication. It is one of the restrictions that we impose, that the data files
can only be viewed with Acrobat Reader.

If you feel that this is too great an inconvenience for you, then please let us know and explain
why. We may be willing to reconsider if a commercially viable case can be made.

4 Technical

4.1 General

4.1.1 What sort of PC is required to use this software ?

Any PC running 32-bit MS Windows i.e. 95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP. Also see the readme.txt in the
root folder of the CD.
4.1.2 What difficulties can be expected when installing this software ?
Any difficulties expected are covered in this document.

4.1.3 The system is prompting me to insert the CD.

I have already copied all the files onto my hard disk and given the CD to
the Second Officer. Why won't the software run without it ?
This software is provided free of charge with a publication called Guide to Port Entry. Just as
with a book, you cannot pass it on to a third party AND continue to use it. Your licence allows
a single installation and requires the presence of the CD in the drive to operate correctly. If
you require multiple copies you must purchase them. We are sorry, but otherwise we would be
out of business.

4.1.4 Something went wrong during the install. What can I do ?

The system isn't working properly.
1. Reboot your PC and try again.

2. Run Control Panel. Choose Add/Remove Programs. Uninstall the following: Adobe Acrobat
Reader, C-Dilla Licence Management System, Guide to Port Entry on CD. Then re-install the
software.

3. Check out our support website on www.portinfo.co.uk and select Support

4.2 C-Dilla Licence Management System (LMS)

4.2.1 Data Encryption

The data on this CD is encrypted using the C-Dilla Licence Management System.

4.2.2 Manual Install

If you have any problems with the automatic install of the C-Dilla Licence Management
System, you can try running a manual installation.

To do this you should copy the entire C-Dilla folder from your CD to a temporary folder such as
C:\temp and browse to the rts folder. Then double-click on cdset32.exe and when prompted
choose Install. Any problems installing will be notified to you by the installer and you may take
whatever corrective action is necessary.
