DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO: 1

Objective(s) of the activities :

1. To familiarize with the environment, staffs and technicians.
2. To know the electrical components in a sub-station

11
Contents :

Getting to know which departments is in which floor and their roles.

Learned about Insulation Resistance( IR ) when En. Hazman took me to
Taman Nagasari, Bukit Mertajam. It was to ensure the healthiness of
overall insulation system of a transformer.
Learned about the electrical components in a sub-station, which were
transformers, switch gears and feeder pillar.
We did a test to locate which feeder pillar supplies to which house.

DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO: 1

12
Objective(s) of the activities : To learn about the permit needed for
underground cable system.

Contents :

En. Zaki took me to Jabatan Kerja Raya( JKR ) to meet with Pn. Sasha,
the representative from JKR which acts as a bridge with TNB.
In order for TNB to start working with underground cables, they need
to get their permit from JKR first.
En. Hazman took me to Bertam, Penang to install a few fuses into the
feeder pillar for supply in the evening

13
DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO: 1

Objective(s) of the activities : To learn about joints and the steps taken

Contents :

Followed En. Rizal and a few jointers to Taman Penaga and did a joint
after the cable has been spike. It took nearly 4 hours to complete a
joint.
I was given the opportunity to participate as well and it was indeed
challenging and it required high mental and physical strength.
Pn. Herdawati and En. Rusydi shared with me how TNB was
constructed, including the divisions included which started with
Generation, Transmission and Distributio. Each division has their roles
and departments under it which performs specific tasks. They then
explained to me the transformers, the feeder pillars and the types of
feeder pillars used and the value of voltage and current applied in the
circuit system.

14
DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO: 1

Objective(s) of the activities :

1. To learn about underground cable system

15
2. To locate fault in cable during Breakdown.

Contents :

En. Zaki and Pn. Noorhayati took me to meet up with a technician from
the Transmission Division in order to check whether the new project
that they are currently doing might interfere with any cables from the
Transmission side.
En. Hazman took me to Raja Uda to locate a fault cable using a High
Voltage Injector. It injects voltage throughouto the underground cable
system and when it hits the weak(fault) point, it will produce a loud
BANG sound indicating its location. Next, we used a ground mic to
trace its location to reach it.

16
DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO: 1

Objective(s) of the activities : To bond with the technicians

Contents :

Had a Farewell Feast to a few technicians as they were going to

transfer to another station and some of them were going to pension.

17
DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO:2

Objective(s) of the activities: To discover the projects from TNB

Contents :

Followed En. Hazman to a few sites to check up the progresses.

Learned about Termination. It is where after a joint has been made,
the underground cable will be terminated at the nearest sub-stations
feeder pillar for supply.

18
DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO:2

Objective(s) of the activities:

1. To learn about Shutdown
2. To learn how to do Phasing

19
Contents :

En Hazman took me to the TNB store behind Perai where there were
hundreds of old transformers and switch gears.
We continued to Pen Fibre to meet up with the contractors to build a
switch gear.
I have learned about Pencawang Masok Utama ( PMU ), where it
consisted of multiple fuse breakers to supply to nearby factories.
We went to Permatang Pauh for shutdown. It is considered the end of
the project as the technicians will give supply to the new housing
area.
I have learned the steps and precautions needed for a shutdown.
We did phasing in order to confirm the position of the red, yellow and
blue cables.

20
DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO: 2

Objective(s) of the activities : To check up the progress of projects

Contents :

Followed En. Hazman to check up his projects at Permatang Tinggi,

Permatang Pauh and Alma

21
DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO:2

Objective(s) of the activities : To build networking

Contents :

En. Zaki took me to JKR to submit forms requesting permit.

Cik Erin took me to MPSP to get their permit on a new project
I assisted En. Yusoff in completing the Duty Confirmation form for
filing

22
DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO: 2

Objective(s) of the activities : -

23
Contents :

Feeling Unwell. Absent for work.

24

DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO: 5

Objective(s) of the activities : To learn about making Tender

Contents :

En. Zaki and En. Rusydi invited me to join their Tender Meeting to
decide which Horizontal Drilling Direction (HDD) cable to use. When a
price of any cable exceeds RM250k, a tender meeting has to be made
in order to decide which cable to buy from the companies. Therefore,
several contractors from a few companies will discuss with TNB
engineers to decide.
We continued to Berapit, Lunas to check out the site.

38
DETAIL REPORT WEEK NO: 5

Objective(s) of the activities : To make a shutdown

39
Contents :

En. Izan and En. Hazman took me to Alma for shutdown. They
explained to me the processes and safety precautions that needs to
be taken before supplying power
If a new sub-station is build, the surrounding sub-stations needs to
be turned off to make the connection. When it is turned off, the sub
stations will then get another supply from a different Pencawang
Pembahagian Utama(PPU).
To identify which cable to spike, an identifier was used. Once
connections are made, we need to normalize to the original power
flow.
