NATIONAL MUSEUM OF HISTORY OF

MOLDOVA

The National Museum of History of Moldova is a place dedicated to the memory of the past; it
preserves, researches, and displays the most significant artifacts that have been discovered on the
territory of the Republic of Moldova from prehistoric times to the present.

Chiinu Water Towe

The Chiinu Water Tower is an architectural monument of Chiinu, Moldova, located at 2


Mitropolit Bnulescu-Bodoni Street and built at the end of 19th century after a project by Alexander
Bernadazzi. It was a main part of Chiinu's water system. The upper level was built of wood and
was destroyed by an earthquake. It was rebuilt between 1980 and 198

Central Chiinu, Moldova. Formerly known as Pushkin Park, it is the oldest park in
Moldova and spans about 7 hectares (17 acres). It has gained the nickname "The
Park of the Lovers" in Chiinu due to its popularity as a meeting spot for couples.
The park contains 50 species of trees, some of which are quite old

Triumphal Arch

Triumphal Arch in Chisinau (formerly called Holy Gates , and under the Soviet regime - Victory
Arch) is an architectural monument built in 1841, situated on bd. Stefan cel Mare across from
the Great National Assembly. The plan is shape of a square and has two levels. Keeps height 13
m. The four pillars of the building was carved in Corinthian style. The upper level is decorated in
classic style. On the front is mounted a mechanical clock, illuminated at night but not
announced the exact time sound.
Monastery Capriana

One of the oldest monasteries in the Republic of Moldova is the Monastery Capriana. It is situated in
the village of Cpriana in the centre of ancient forest of Codri. The Monastery is located 30 km north-
west of Chisinau. Cpriana is a monastery located in a wonderful hollow surrounded by wooded hills on
three sides.

Nativity Cathedral, Chiinu

The architectural centerpiece of Chisinau, the Metropolitan Cathedral, was built in


1836 at the initiative of Prince Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov, the governor of New
Russia and Metropolitan of Bessarabia Gabriel Banulescu-Bodoni. The Cathedral was
designed by Avraam Melnikov. It is one of the best examples of Russian architecture
in Chisinau. The citys urban plan that was laid in 1817 was the first to display the
Cathedrals location and its basic architecture in the cruciform plan.

Soroca Fortress

Soroca is a town, located in the North-East part of Moldova, on the border with Ukraine. Due to
the Gipsy minority living there, it is considered the Roma capital of Moldova, and also known
as the Gipsy capital of the world.
