Error message while playing copy-protected music files.
Windows Media Player will report that it has encountered a problem while trying to play a copy-protected music file in Microsoft
with the Sigmatel STAC 92xx C-Major HD integrated sound card with driver A00 or A01 installed.
To download and install the Sigmatel STAC 92xx C-Major HD A02 driver, perform the following steps:

- Ensure "Bluetooth Audio Renderer" is set as default then click on properties.
Verify the headset has a sample rate of 2 channels, 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality). If not, click the drop-down lis

PC RESTORE
DSN has been updated as how to restore system to factory settings.
To restore Windows Vista to the factory backup, perform the following steps:
Restoring Windows to the factory default configuration deletes all data on the C: drive. You must back up your
data before performing this step or your data will be lost.
1. Start the computer.

2. Tap the <F8> key on the keyboard during the startup process until you see the Windows Advanced Options menu
on the screen.
If the Windows Advanced Options menu does not appear, restart the system and try again.
3. Press the <Down Arrow> key to select Repair Your Computer and press the <Enter> key.
The System Recovery Options window appears.
4. Select your language and click Next.
5. Log in as a user with administrative rights and click OK.
6. Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
The Dell Factory Image Restore window appears.
7. Click Next.
8. Check Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition.
9. Click Next.
The factory software image is now written to your hard drive.
10. Click Finish to restart the computer.

CURRENT ISSUES - 1
1) True Mobile 1390 will not associate with network found.
Solution - Make sure that if you associate to a NON-Broadcasted network, it will drop (same as XP) using Windows to
manage. The trick in Vista is you need to check the box to associate to non-broadcasted networks. This is an option when
creating the profile.
Vista has the builitin drivers for TrueMobile Cards so there is really not a need for separate drivers to resolve this.
A12 driver package won't be released until March.

2) Microsoft Outlook 2007 is very slow when accessing PST.
Solution - If Customer has installed the program recently, being precise lesser than 24 hours then its due to indexing.
Because Vista takes minimum of 24 hours to complete the PST indexing.

Issues Already Reported And Temporary Workarounds

No Sound issues after upgrading to Vista.
- There are some new workaround suggested by Joseph(HYD L2) to resolve this issue.
Ensure there are no bangs with audio drivers in Device Manager, then go to Control Panel - Sound - Speaker Propert
When you click on the pull down menu here you might get around 10 different formats, one after the other select one
You might get sound in one of the format, select apply and OK.
No Sound after upgrading to Windows Vista & Errors in Windows Vista Media Player when playing copy-protected
audio files.
Solution - Both the issues are fixed by installing Sigmatel A02 drivers(Vista).

2) Sonic DLA is not compatible with windows VISTA message on startup
Solution - Follow DSN Document ID - 315789 has been updated with additional steps.
If this doesn't work then remove Sonic DLA or Roxio Drag and Drop from program features in Control Panel.
If you have trouble removing Sonic DLA/Roxio Drag & Drop then remove the Windows Update 929427 and remove Sonic
DLA or Roxio Drag & Drop.
Note: I have received mails confirming the solutions mentioned above have been fixing the issue.
3) OOBE System - No OS Found Err
Solution:
Method 1
1. Boot to WinRe run the " Startup Repair" option.
2. Reboot system.
Method 2
1. Boot to WinRe Run " System Restore"
Note: This will work only if a Restore Point is created.
2. Reboot the system.
Method 3
Run "Dell Image Restore" from F8 menu.
If none of the stpes work Reinstall the "Operating System" using the Dell Windows Vista DVD that was shipped together
with the system.
- Please send tags and include information regarding what happened before the issue occurred (NIS update, NIS
install, OOB, etc.)
4) WinRE And Dell Image Restore not an option of Windows Advanced Boot Options(F8 Menu) on an OEM System
or After Vista Upgrade from Dell OEM disc.
Solution - "Dell Image Restore" and "WinRE" option are not part of F8 Menu. This option is not directly under F8 Menu
as mentioned.
To restore the system to factory image follow these steps:
1) Restart your computer, press the F8 key for couple of times at Dell logo to access "Windows Advanced Boot
Options."
2) From Windows Advanced Boot Options select the option "Repair My Computer"
3) You will get a screen that says "System Recover Options" which will list all the User Accounts on his computer.
4) Once you click on the User Account you would get a WinRE window which will list WinRE Options out of which select
the last one which is "Dell Image Restore"
5) NIS 2007 updates will prevent system from playing MP3 CDs.
Temporary fix remove NIS updates.
- Please forward the service tag, case number, symptoms, solution that resolved the issue.
6) ATI X1400 drivers prevents full display. But with native display drivers system works fine.
Temporary solution remove ATI driver and have Customer use default Vista Display drivers.
7) Dell Color Laser 3110cn - Unable to install the printer drivers.
This driver will no auto run. Run printer installation wizard and associate the INF to this wizard if it still does not work.
Please forward the service tag, case number, symptoms, solution that resolved the issue.
8) iTunes 7.0.2 causing lot of S/W issues on Vista.
This version of iTunes is not a Vista Compatible Version but however you can install it.
OOBE System - No OS Found Err is seen only after installing iTunes.

For any S/W issues remove iTunes as the T/S step.

9) Issue : Trend Micro stuck in Reboot loop after update.
Temporary work around - turn off the Trend Micro Update Manager by launching the application.

MD3 Installation Issue

If Customer first boots from MD3 DVD and selects 1st option from the menu. Then boots from Vista DVD he will see 2 opti

In case if Customer reports the above issue after following the correct steps to install MD3, then follow the below
1) Boot from Vista DVD, Delete all the partitions.
2) After Deleting all the partitions remove the Vista DVD and Insert MD3 media.
3) Restart the system and select to boot from Optical Drive.
4) From the menu select 1st option. Once MD button is configured, remove the MD3 media and insert Vista DVD.
5) Restart the system and install the Operating System.
6) Insert the MD3 media.
7) AutoRun prompt will come up click on the Open Folder option.
8) Browse to DellKit folder. Locate Dellkit.exe and right click on the file select Run as administrator. Follow the setup wizar

How To Change Drive Letter In Vista?
You can change, add, or remove a drive letter by using Computer Management.
1. Open Computer Management by clicking the Pearl button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, clicking
double-clicking Computer Management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password

3. Right-click the partition or drive that you want to change, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.

1. No Sound issues may be seen on both Upgraded and Factory Imaged Systems.
- When you get such issues first boot to safe mode follow these steps :
1. Remove Sigmatel completely from Device Manager restart the system.
2. Go to Device Manager in normal mode ensure Sigmatel is not seen in Device Manager.
3. Allow native drivers to control audio device. Once sound is back install sigmatel.
4. If still no sound then check if "Windows Audio Service" is started and running. If service is stopped, Start the Serv
5. If you are not able to start the service there may be two errors - 1079 and 1068.
For these issues follow the below steps:

2. Express Vista Upgrade - Update.
There might be high traffic to this site later this month as the upgrade period is coming to end.
3. COA's Missing From Upgrade Kit - Update.

COA's are scanned before they are actually shipped out. If Customer has misplaced or lost the cardboard insert push

4. WAU - Update.
WAU Disc have been stopped Shipping as most Customers are using this disc accidentally and upgrading to Vista U

- Java Runtime
- Dell Connect
- LimeWire
- Including few S/W activation popup will disable Aero.
At times even Sonic/Roxio will disable Aero.
6. MS Works 8.5 Includes Free Trial Of Office 2003 on Vista systems.
When Customer is trying to use Office 2003 it will prompt for product key for this trial version. Microsoft does not g
2003 the only option is Customer needs to download and install 60 day Trial version of Office 2007.

7. Lojack Update.
- Dell shipped version of Lojack will not work on Vista. Customer needs to purchase Retailed Version from Lojack.
8. Inspiron 1501 Not resuming from standby on Vista when Battery is the source of power.
- On battery only, Kirin systems are not resuming from standby (about 4% of systems). This is only happening with
NOT REPLACE HARDWARE. Replacing hardware will not resolve the issue, and will definitely lead to a poor CE
initial power on will prevent this issue (its not seen if AC is connected at all, with or without battery).
9. Customers may report HDD free space is reporting less within few days.
- If Customer reports that the HDD free space is reducing fast when there are no changes to the system. This could e

10. File Transfer speed is very slow when Customer is copying from Vista to XP system.
- Some of the workaround for this issue that have worked in getting this fixed :
1. Turn off "Remote Differential Compression" by selecting "Turn windows features on or off" in Program Features of Control Panel.
2. Remove the display drivers completely from Safe Mode. Restart the system run the system with native drivers.
3. Disconnect external peripherals connected. USB Printer can be one of the reasons for this.
4. If Customer has upgraded from XP to Vista take "ownership" of ALL of the files on ALL of your hardrives, they will copy/move/delete

5. Try turning off the auto-tuning for the TCP/IP receive window. Use the following command.
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
and to re-enable it

In some cases you may need to use this command in combination with the above

If turning off the auto-tuning works then something on your network doesn't
support this feature which is too bad because it can really speed up things

Go to Windows update. Click on change settings (on the left).
Check "never check for updates." Remove any other checks (Recommended update and any other).

It will also download a couple of Windows updates. After, that don't forget to go back to Win updates and change
back to auto setting.

Issue: HTTP 404 error or "Page Cannot be displayed" when trying to connect to Internet with Actiontec modem/rou
Yahoo(DSL) ISP on a Vista System.
Discussion: Customer has XP and Vista Computers but XP works fine and Vista says connected but unable to pull th
routers more like a malicious code due to issues with S/W compatibility.
Solution: Below mentioned steps are slightly advanced, depending on the Customer you can try this.
1.(on pc with issue)

access the modem gui (192.168.1.1) > note WAN IP address
2. Click "advanced setup"
3. Enter admin login for modem (default is "admin" and "password")
4. Click on "remote management/telnet"
5. Select "ON" for Remote Management
6. Click apply
7. Close browser
8. (on remote pc)

on a pc with a different IP address... type in the browser....http://XX.XXX.XX.XX./verizon/redirect

Hi Team,
We can try this if customer has Mcafee 8.0 installed with Vista.
If you get a call where the internet browsing is very slow on broadband and in the safe mode with networking
step::
1. Goto services in system configuration tool.

2. Disable mcafee redirector services and restart the laptop.
The browsing speed would get back to normal.
What happens here is that when you have the redirector services enabled, the web pages are scanned or filtered by the mcafe
which would take a long time to be completed and hence the slow speed.
Note:: even after the redirector services is disabled, if the issue still persists perform these steps::
Open mcafee security centre.

Click on configure after you highlight internet and network.
disable phishing filter
This would definitely resolve the issue.
