Course Description: This course is designed to educate the students about the basic laws
and concepts in linear electric circuits. The course will cover primarily the DC circuits, however
fundamental knowledge about the AC circuits will also be taught. Moreover, in this course the
students will learn to apply various laws and theorems to find the unknown parameters of linear
circuits. Furthermore, computer aided analysis through code based PSPICE will be a part of this
course.
Prerequisite(s): None.
Note(s): A minimum grade of D is required in this course to pass.
Credit Hours: 3+0+1

Text(s): Electric circuits, 10th Edition Author(s): Nilsson and Riedel;

Text(s): Engineering Circuit Analysis, 8th Edition Author(s): Hayt, Kammerly and Durbin;

Text(s): Introduction to Electric Circuits, 9th Edition Author(s): Dorf and Svoboda;

Supportive material: Personal notes, http://bit.ly/2dJob0x Author: Dr. Hadeed Ahmed

Sher;

Course Objectives:
At the completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the ideal circuit elements.
2. Differentiate between dependent and independent sources.
3. Explain the limitations of various laws and theorems for circuit analysis.
4. Solve Op-Amp circuits.
5. Understand the difference between planar and non-planar circuits.
6. Solve any linear DC circuit using PSPICE.
Grade Distribution:
Midterm Exam 30%
Final Exam 50%

Course Policies:
General

Students are advised to join the google group for updates.

The homework solution using software is to be submitted through email.
Calculators and smart phones are not to be used unless instructed to do so.
Quizzes and exams are closed book, closed notes.
No makeup quizzes or exams will be given.

Students are expected to work independently. Offering and accepting solutions from
others is an act of plagiarism, which is a serious offense and all involved parties will
be penalized accordingly. Discussion amongst students is encouraged, but when in
doubt, direct your questions to the professor, tutor, or lab assistant.
No late assignments will be accepted under any circumstances.

Attendance and Absences

Attendance is expected and will be taken each class. You are allowed to walkout of the
class during the lecture for refreshments. Attendance has no marks for the final grading
however, student must have at least 75% attendance to appear in the exam.
