Festival tips and tricks:
There is no official list of A, B and C festivals, but a good guideline can be deadline-
calendar from Flanders Image. It uses different categories and provides a handy
filter tool. Next to the Oscar-qualified and EFA-qualified festivals, you will find the
the top festivals, interesting festivals and other festivals.
First try the biggest festivals; premiere status outside the country of production is
( mostly) required and the film cannot be no older than one year. Belgium screenings
in or outside a festival poses no obstacle. Then, in the second year, consider smaller
festivals. After that, think about ( pay-) TV and distribution. Be aware when the full
version of your film can be seen on the Internet, you can no longer participate in all
the above mentioned channels.
Partly financial and practical intervention for screening copies ( DCP) when selected
Vimeo: 500 MB/week upload or if you pay for your account you can upload ( up to 5
or 20 GB / week) your film in a better quality. Youtube: up to 15 min. Many festivals
accept an online screener. Make sure you always protect it with a password. Most
festivals dont accept films one can freely watch on the internet.
You can make free use of this music database. Only for internal use (within the school).
Would you like to submit your film for festivals or on TV, Internet or other platforms, then
you are obliged to regulate copyright through Stock Music or Sabam:
- http://stockmusic.be/ First create an account on the website (blue box: registrate) with
your LUCA E-mail address ( you are recognized as a student and can download for free).
If you consider to screen your film outside the school context, you can
contact joel@stockmusic.be . They make special prices for students
