Unit Title: Momentum and Impulse Modeling Time Frame: 3 Weeks

Course: Physics II Grade Level: 9th 12th
CURRICULUM/STANDARDS
Arizona State Standards:
S5C2PO8. Analyze the impulse required to produce a change in momentum.
S5C2PO14. Quantify interactions between objects to show that the total momentum is conserved in both collision and recoil situations.

Next Generation Science Standards:

HS-PS2-3. Apply scientific and engineering ideas to design, evaluate, and refine a device that minimizes the force on a
macroscopic object during a collision

KEY THEMES/QUESTIONS
Why are objects crashing with each other? What are forces needed in such collision?
What happens when an object crashes into some object or surface?
Is velocity related to the objects crashing with the surface or another object?
What is the relationship between the mass of an object and speed?
What happens to an object when it speeds with some mass in each amount of time?
Will the crash or collision depend on some other external forces?
How are momentum and Impulse related? Could they be interchanged and used?
