ED 467: INTERN TEACHING: ______
Candidate: Date:
Alina Sturgis 2-21-17

Content Area: Math Grade Level: 8

Integrated
Subject Matter:
Multiplication Properties of Exponents
Lesson Content Description:
-Product of Powers
-Power of a Power
-Power of a Product

Instructional Strategies/Method of Delivery:

- White board, lecture, worksheet, individual white boards, Guided
practice.
Common Core Standard:
CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.A.1
Know and apply the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent
numerical expressions. For example, 32 3-5 = 3-3 = 1/33 = 1/27.
ELD Standard:
1. Exchanging information/ideas
Contribute to class, group, and partner
discussions by following turn-taking rules,
asking relevant questions, affirming others, adding relevant information, and
paraphrasing key ideas.
Common Core Lesson Objective:
The students will be able to complete their ticket out the door by describing
the rule and using their notes and Exponent Rules Book to simplify the
expression.

Assessment:
Formative: pre-test, guided practice, white boards, homework assignment,
oral questioning

Summative: Post-test

Lesson/Assessment Modifications: ELL: Special Needs

-Focus on vocabulary
-extra set of notes if necessary (fill in)
-allow for collaboration
-
Technology: Describe the types of technology you will be utilizing in your
lesson to create and enhance instruction
If no technology is used, please explain why.

LESSON PRESENTATION

INTO

Step-by-Step Anticipatory Set/Orientation

The test didnt go well, so we are re-teaching the chapter.
Take pretest
What do you know about exponents?
Show quick example of how exponents are related to multiplication
Short term goal: to learn and recognize the rule
Long term goal: use the rules to solve more complex problems such as
exponential growth

THROUGH

Step-by-Step Modeling/Presentation of the Objective

Introduce lesson and objective
Pass out worksheet
Show an example of product of powers/ introduce rule (examples are
on worksheet)
Show example of power of powers/ introduce rule
Show example of power of product/introduce rule

Technology used to create and enhance modeling examples:

EL: Special Needs Adaptations:

Step-by-Step Guided/Structured Practice of the Objective: Gradual

Release of Instruction
Guided practice problem of product of powers on individual white
boards
Guided practice problem of power of powers/ power of products
Video

Technology used to create and enhance Guided Practice examples:

Khan Academy video: exponent properties 1

Checking for Understanding/Formative Assessment of Each

Students Performance/Closure of Instruction
Students have a chance to work on assignment, worksheet

EL: Special Needs Adaptations:

- Students use exponent books that they already made

BEYOND

Independent Practice/Summative Assessment of Each Students

Performance

-Post test
-Objective restated/ wrap up
