Using the Stratix 5700 IntelliCENTER Software Features
One of the new additions to IntelliCENTER v6 software is the addition of the Stratix 5700 to the Elevation view. Now the status
and health of each Stratix 5700 mounted within your MCC lineup can be monitored. From the elevation view, further information
can be accessed from the Stratix 5700 monitor view, webpage and associated documentation. This section will step through
some of the highlights of the Stratix 5700 additions.

Elevation View
The Stratix 5700 can be located in the top or bottom unit of a vertical section, or in the horizontal wireway. In this demo, the
Stratix 5700 is located in the bottom unit. As with other devices, the overall health of the device is indicated by the blue indicator.

From the Elevation view, the Monitor view, webpage and documentation can be accessed in the same manner as we did with the
E300 and PowerFlex 755.

55 of 94
Monitor View
1. To open the Monitor View, right click on the Stratix 5700 unit and select Monitor Device.

2. The Monitor view will open showing the status of each Ethernet port and a subset of parameters that provide the
health of the switch.

3. The Monitor view allows a user to monitor the status of Stratix 5700 even when the PC that is being used is not on the
same segment of the Ethernet network. Each port can be clicked on to get a more detailed status of that port. The
next steps will demonstrate this feature.

56 of 94
4. Click on Port 4, the PowerFlex 755 should be connected to this port.

5. Note how Port 4 becomes highlighted and all the gauges, trends and parameters change to reflect the status of Port 4.

6. Disconnect the cable connected to Port 4 of the Stratix 5700.

7. Note the change in state of the Port 4 indicator and the alarm that is now present in the Data - Fa1/4 Fa1/4 Port Alarm
Status.

57 of 94
8. We can also observe the Comm Loss of the PowerFlex 755 in the Elevation view.

9. Reconnect the cable to Port 4 of the Stratix 5700.

Webpage
The Stratix 5700 webpage provides a user the ability to monitor and configure advanced features such as:
Smartports including other Port Settings
DHCP including DHCP Persistence
VLAN management
Protocol Configuration: Spanning Tree and REP

1. To access the Stratix 5700 webpage, right click on the Stratix 5700 unit on the Elevation view, and choose View
Webpage. Log into the webpage using the following credentials, username: Admin; password: rockwell

2. The Stratix 5700 webpage will open on the Dashboard view, giving an overall status of the switch along with basic
switch information. Take a moment to see all the information that is provided on the Dashboard.

NOTE: In order to have access to the Stratix 5700 webpage, the PC and switch need to be on the same
segment of your Ethernet network; the webpage cannot be accessed when going through the backplane of a
ControlLogix. The Stratix 5700 monitor view is always accessible.

59 of 94
3. Now we will explore some of the advanced features of the Stratix 5700 switch that we can configure through the
Webpage. Click on Configure in the toolbar and select Smartports.

4. Smartports can be used to set recommended configurations for any of the Ethernet ports. These configurations
optimize the switch connections and provide port settings such as security, transmission quality and reliability for traffic.
View the various Smartport options by clicking on the Role for any of the switch ports.

Do not change any of the port roles from None to ensure communications remain to all currently connected
devices.

60 of 94
5. Lets explore another advanced feature, this time DHCP. Under Configure, select DHCP.

6. DHCP or dynamic host configuration protocol allows the Stratix 5700 switch to assign IP addresses from a user
specified pool to DHCP enabled devices that are directly connected to the switch. Under Global Settings, you can
enable or disable DHCP and create IP address pools that can be used.

7. Another feature of the Stratix 5700 allows a user to use DHCP Persistence, which will allow a user to specify the exact
IP address any DHCP-enabled device will be assigned when connected to a specific port. Click on DHCP Persistence
to view the configuration.

61 of 94
8. Lets say we wanted the PowerFlex 755 drive connected to port 4 to always have the IP address 192.168.1.30, but we
dont want to set the IP address statically. Click the Pool Name cell next to Fa1/4 (port 4) and select IP_Pool.

*Notice after the pool name IP_Pool it specifies the range of IP addresses that can be used with that pool.
9. Now type in 192.168.1.30 into the IP Address cell.

This configuration would ensure that whatever device is plugged into port 4; it will always have the IP address
192.168.1.30.

This feature when combined with a Logix platform configured to do Automatic Device Configuration and Firmware
Supervisor will reduce the amount of time and user configuration need in the event that the current PowerFlex 755
drive connected to port 4 needs to be replaced. The DHCP Persistence will ensure that the device has the proper IP
address, then the Logix processor will determine if the devices firmware is correct based on the Logix program. If not,
the processor will flash the proper firmware to the device. Lastly, it will check the device parameters and push any
required changes to the device. All this is done automatically, when configured properly, reducing the amount of
downtime experienced.

10. Hit Cancel on the configuration just entered so that this can be done by the next lab user.

These are just a few of the advanced configurations that can be done through the Stratix 5700 webpage.
