Exam Requirements
The Praxis Core Exam is an assessment that consists of three components:
mathematics, reading, and writing. The required passing score for the test involves
receiving a score of 150 in math, 156 in reading, and a 162 in writing. Taking and passing
the three sections of the test is vital, especially since I am transferring to the University of
Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). I need to pass the Praxis Core Exam before I can continue
practice examination book from the College of Southern Nevadas library and studied the
content three hours a week. Besides using the practice book, I took time researching how
many questions are on each test, as well as their respective allotted timeframes on the
Educational Testing Service (ETS) website; although, I did not review the practice
questions on the ETS website. Both the mathematics and reading tests contain 56
questions with 86 minutes given to complete each test. The writing test contains 40
multiple choice questions and two essays, with a given time of 40 minutes for the
multiple choice and thirty minutes for each of the two essays. I have been using this
timing information when I take practice tests from the Barrons PRAXIS CORE practice
mathematics score was in the 74% range, meaning I am borderline passing my math
section of the exam. My reading score was a low 55%, which means I need improvement
by the time I take the official Core Exam. Finally, my Praxis Core writing component was
various study methods to reach full preparation by my test date. I will continue to read
the Barrons PRAXIS CORE examination preparation in order to continue pacing myself.
Even though I need to study for all the sections, I will concentrate a little more on the
reading section in order to be in full prepared, considering the fact that I still need
improvement. Reading the ETS study preparation and Teachers Test Prep study guides
will also be a goal. That way I can gather all the tips at my disposition. My aspiration is
to be ready to take the Praxis Core with enough practice to pass all sections.
