Assignment One Part III

Write a Proposal:
For my research project, I am discussing the quality of American school food. My
focusing question will be as follows: How can we improve American school food for children
and adolescents? My primary purpose in deciding to conduct this research was to find out how
unhealthy and damaging American school food is. What has led to such unhealthy food in our
school systems, and how can we improve it? What kinds of choices should we be encouraging
our youth to make when consuming school food? With these questions researched and answered,
we can hopefully decrease the ever-growing rate of obesity that will continue to kill our country
if this unhealthy trend continues.
What interested me most about this topic was my own personal experiences. Throughout
my K-12 career, I did not experience the healthiest of foods. The variety of options that I had
access to did not help either. I wanted to find out more about just how unhealthy American
school food is and what factors play in to why it is such low quality. Since I am a Pre-Nursing
major, a health related topic like this really interested me. I hope to find realistic ways in which
the quality and healthiness of American school food can be improved.

SLO Connection:
The SLO I see being exercised in this activity is Composing Processes. Composing

Processes is defined as demonstrating flexible strategies for drafting, reviewing, collaborating,

revising, rewriting, rereading, and editing (University Writing Program, UNCC, 2017). Through

this activity, we drafted an essential part of our paper that includes our focusing question or

thesis. After completion of the proposal, a collaboration of different parts such as the proposal

and references page was put together to fulfill this assignments requirements. In addition, the

SLO of Rhetorical Knowledge could be included due to the fact that rhetorical questions within

my proposal were established. After completing the entire assignment, I can now reflect back on

my progress thus far concerning my paper, and revise any aspects I see fit. This could also fall

under Critical Reflection.
