Prerequisite: ECE1001 Fundamentals of Electrical Circuits

Objectives:
This course will provide the students with an overview of the fundamental concepts in Electronics
Engineering

Expected Outcome:
The student will be able to:
1. Derive the empirical relationship between power, voltage and current and analyze the AC
circuits with dependent sources in steady state.
2. Understand the application of network theorems for electronic circuits.
3. Understand the Laplace Transform and its application on linear network analysis.
4. Understand the basics of two port networks and its different parameters like Z.Y, h.
Interconnection of two port networks.
5. Understand the Fourier series, Fourier Transform and its application on linear network
analysis
6. Design the passive filters for various applications

Module:1 Sinusoidal Steady -State Analysis 4 hours SLO:

Review of steady state sinusoidal analysis using phasors. Node voltage and Mesh current analysis,
special cases. Network theorems: Superposition, Thevenin, Norton and maximum power transfer
theorem.

Module:2 Network graphs 4 hours SLO:

Definition of terms. Matrices associated with graphs; incidence, reduced incidence, fundamental
cut-set and fundamental tie-set.

Module:3 Circuit Analysis in the S domain 4 hours SLO:

Introduction to Laplace transform (LT), poles, zeros and transfer functions. Analysis of circuits
subjected to periodic and aperiodic excitations using Laplace transforms.

Module:4 Application of Fourier series in Circuit 3 hours SLO:

Trigonometric Fourier series, Symmetry conditions, Applications in circuit solving
Module:5 Application of Fourier transforms in circuit 4 hours SLO:

Fourier transforms. Properties, Applications in circuit solving, Comparisons of Fourier and
Laplace transforms.

Module:6 Two-Port Networks 5 hours SLO:

Significance and applications of one port and two networks. Two port network analysis using:
Admittance (Y) parameters, Impedance (Z) parameters, Hybrid (h) parameters. Interconnection of
Two port networks.

Module:7 Principles of Filters, Attenuators and 4 hours SLO:

Concept of filtering. Filter types: Low pass, High pass, Band pass and Band stop and their
Characteristics. Design of T-type, -type, Lattice and Bridged-T attenuator, Equalizers.
