DescriptionofValuedPerformanceProject
Secondgradestudentswillcreateafactplatebasedoffofthecountrysfoundingfathers.
Thisprojectwillincludeapaperplate,yarn,holepuncher,andcoloringmaterials.Studentswill
chooseafoundingfatherandelaborateontheirchoicethroughillustrationandwriting.The
paperplateshouldincludeatitle,whichwillbethenameofthechosenfoundingfatheraswell
asanillustrationofthefoundingfatherinthecenteroftheplate.Holeswillthenbepunchedin
thebottomofthepaperplate,whichiswheretheyarnwillbeattached.Cutoutsofpaperwill
thenbetiedwiththeyarnthroughtheholesonthepaperplatesothattheyaredanglingfromthe
plate.Studentswillanswerquestionsabouttheirfoundingfathersbasedoffofwhat,when,
whereandwhyscenariosonthesmallcutoutsofpaper.

foundingfatherthatwehavestudiedsofar.Thisprojectwillbecompletedinclass.Youwilluse
yourtextbooktoanswertherequiredquestions.Directionsareasfollows:

Inthisprojectsecondgraderswillshowwhattheyhavelearnedaboutourfounding
fathers.Studentswillcreateafoundingfathersfactplateinordertobeassessedontheir
understandingofourfoundingfathers.Studentswillalsoanswerandbeassessedonquestions
thataddresswho,what,when,andwhereaspects.Throughillustrationandcoloringstudentswill
alsobeabletohavefunwiththeproject.Thisprojectwillbebeneficialtothestudentsbecauseit
impliesthevaluesinwhichourcountrywasformedon,anditwillalsogivestudentsthebasic
knowledgeonhowcreatingsomethingthatiseyepleasing.
Sincethisprojectwillbecompletedinclass,studentswillbeallowedtocollaboratewith
oneanotheraswellastheteacher,inordertoexchangeideasandresponses.Thecategorieson
therubricgohandinhandwiththeAlabamaStateStandardsasfarascriteriaandcontent.The
rubricwillbeusedtoassessknowledgeofthefoundingfathers,whichrelatestotheAlabama
StateStandardAL.SS.2.2,aswellasspellingandcapitalization,whichcorrelateswiththestate
standard,AL.ELA.2.36.
