Colour Theory

Colour is considered very important in a logo as it can dictate the

way the audience and customers feel about a brand. If a colour
doesnt represent the same feelings that the, for example,
programmes give out, then the audience can lose the sense of flow
and consistency, which can lead to a loss in interest.

For example McDonalds...

The design of the logo is still the same, however the colour change
renders the famous brand into something completely different.

Logo 1- BBC One

The main establishing colour in this logo is red. I feel that the colour
for this exact logo connotes strength, energy and determination.
This can be linked to the fact of the channel, BBC One, being the
longest running channel on British television, making it come across
as the strongest due to its channel number of 001. As the channel
is the longest running it can create competition with other channels
as they could gain jealousy. This is where the energy and
determination can be seen to stem from through the colour red.

Logo 2- E4

E4 uses a standard tone of purple as its main colour in its logo. The
colour purple can carry connotations such as power, nobility and
ambition. Personally, I think that the colour links well to the
channels identity as it comes across as a very surreal colour that
can be considered unnatural, tying into E4s wacky brand.

Logo 3- Sky Sports

The colours used in the logo are mainly blue and red, with white
text. The red can be seen to represent strength, power, love,
determination and desire. The colour blue can be seen to stand for
loyalty, trust and wisdom. Personally, I think that the colours used in
the logo work well to symbolise sport and the emotions and feelings
involved around it. From the colour red being a energetic and bright
colour it can bring the feeling you get from a sport. The colours
should be able to represent feelings you get when participating in a
sport. This is beneficial so that viewers can come across the sky
sports logo and immediately know what the channel has to offer.
The colour blue can be seen as a masculine colour. This relates to
the channel as the majority of viewers are male, however a female
audience is still present.
