Full Transcript of Emma Watsons Speech on Gender Inequality at

the UN

Emma Watson wants to end Gender Inequality. She is launching a

campaign called HeForShe. She believes she will end this and women will
have rights. She says I am reaching out to you because we need your help.
We want to end Gender Inequality and to do this, we need everyone
involved. This is the first campaign of its kind at the US. We want to mobilize
as many men and boys as possible, to be advocates for a change. And we
dont just want to talk about it. (Watson.) Emma Watson was appointed as
Goodwills Ambassador for United States Women six months ago, she
thought that the more she talked about Feminism the more it was taken with
man-hating.

The problem that needs to be solved is Gender Inequality. Emma

Watson says When I was 8, I was so confused for being called bossy
because I wanted to direct the plays that we would put on for our parents,
but the boys were not.(Watson.) Emma hopes that by launching her
HeForShe campaign Gender Inequality will soon have an end and just like
men, women will have rights. She is reaching out to us and believes that the
change is on us. Emma Watson says And the more I spoke about feminism,
the more I realized that fighting for womens rights has too often become
synonymous with man hating. (Watson.) She states that feminism is the
belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.
Emma Watsons goal is to end Gender Inequality and give women the same
rights as men.

Emma Watson says When I was 18, my male friends were unable to
express their feelings. I decided that I was a feminist, and this seemed
uncomplicated to me. But my recent research has shown me that feminism
has become an unpopular word. (Watson.) She believes that women do not
choose to be identified as feminists, and that sometimes womens
expressions are seen as too strong, aggressive, or even unattractive. Emma
Watson just wants for us women to be able to make political decisions that
will have an effect on each and one of our lives; she wants to make a
difference for all women. Emma Watson states that women shouldnt be
shown as if they were less than anyone else. She thinks that Gender
Inequality is everyones issue because not everyone wants to make a
difference for women and for each and one of them to have the same rights
as men do. Emma feels like Gender Inequality is somewhat her problem to
and thats why shes trying to end this. She feels like if she had not seen
what she saw, she probably would not have done anything about it, but she
really wants to stand up for womens rights. She is more than sure that she
will end this and women will not be seen as feminists. Emma is more than
sure that inadvertent feminists are the ones who really want to make a
change for our society just like she does.
