The Present Perfect Tense Wakati timilifu

We use the present perfect to say that an action happened at an unspecified time
before now.

I + have + past participle

Ni + me + kitenzi (verb)

Note: In Kiswahili you just add kitenzi, there is no changing form of verb.

1. I have opened the door ( openfungua, doormlango)


Ni + me + fungua mlango
Nimefungua mlango

2. I have written my name ( writeandika, my name- jina langu)


Ni + me + andika jina langu
Nimeandika jina langu

3. I have taught Kiswahili (teach-fundisha)


Ni + me + fundisha Kiswahili
Nimefundisha Kiswahili

4. I have finished the work (finish-maliza, work-kazi)


Nimemaliza kazi

You + have + past participle


U/M + me + kitenzi

5. You have opened the door


Umefungua mlango (umoja)
Mmefungua mlango (wingi)

6. You have taught Kiswahili


Umefundisha Kiswahili
Mmefundisha Kiswahili
7. You have finished the work
Umemaliza kazi
Mmemaliza kazi

He/She/It + has + past participle


A + me + kitenzi (verb)

8. He has gone to school


Amekwenda shule

9. She has played football


Amecheza mpira

Note: If you start with noun (jina) you just follow as in other tense, i.e

James/Jane + has + past participle

James/Jane + a + me + kitenzi

10. James has bought a car


James a + me + nunua + gari
James amenunua gari

11.Jane has won the match (win-shinda, match-mechi)


Jane ameshinda mechi

We + have + past participle


Tu + me + kitenzi

12. We have closed our books (close-funga)


Tumefunga vitabu vyetu
13.We have broken the window (break-vunja, window-dirisha)
Tumevunja dirisha

14.We have paid school fees


Tumelipa ada ya shule

They + have + past participle


Wa + me + kitenzi (verb)

15.They have played football


Wamecheza mpira

Note: If you start with noun, follow as in other tense, i.e


John and James + have + past participle
John na James + wa + me + kitenzi

16.Amry and Alvin have slept (sleep-lala)


Amry na Alvin wamelala

17. They have driven a car (drive-endesha)


Wameendesha gari
