Camp CMC
An ensemble camp for young musicians
Make great music and new friends at Community
Music Center this summer! Camp CMC is a one-week
summer camp that offers young musicians ages 9-14
the chance to play in both small and large groups
and explore many different styles with our diverse
faculty. Past styles have included Latin, Cuban, spiri-
tuals, jazz, classical, blues, folk, rock, swing, American
Songbook, Klezmer and more. Students are grouped
in their ensembles by instrument and level. This
years ensembles will include voice. There are lots of
chances to work on general musicianship skills, too,
like playing percussion instruments, singing, and
rhythmic movement. Camp CMC players share their
work in a big performance at the end of the week.
Ages: 9-14
Instruments: All
Musical Styles: Classical, Latin, jazz, other
Prerequisites: Minimum of two years of study on
an instrument and concurrent enrollment in private
lessons (not necessarily at CMC). Vocal students may
fulfill the requirement by participating in chorus or
glee club. Students will be asked to schedule a ten-
minute audition.

Musical Discovery Camp
Playing together: sounds, rhythms and songs
Introduce your child to the world of musical sounds and
the joys of making music together. Previous experience
singing or playing an instrument is welcome but not re-
quired. We will focus on musical styles from the Caribbe-
an, Mexican and African-American traditions. Students
will learn songs, rhythms, musical games, and instru-
mental techniques, as well as learn about the history
and cultural background of a variety of musical genres
from these traditions. The weeks activities will include
singing, rhythm work, introduction to guitar and per-
cussion, and ensemble work, where students will learn
about dynamics, sound quality, listening and playing
at the same time, staying in rhythm, and following the
conductor. Students will share what theyve learned
in an informal performance at the end of the week.
Ages: 8-12

Chamber Music Camp
Delight in playing chamber music with others!
Play in supportive small ensembles, coached daily
by CMC faculty members. Pre-formed groups as
well as individuals are encouraged to apply. Camp-
ers will also participate in master classes and large
ensembles by instrument. Music will be mailed by
mid-April to allow time for practice with private
teachers before the beginning of camp. There will
also be time for daily independent rehearsal during
our week together. Friends and family are invited to
attend the end of camp performance on Friday, June
30 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, to celebrate your musi-
cal accomplishments and new friendships.
Concert Band Camp
