Write a five-sentence paragraph.
Read the examples then write your own sentences in the boxes.

Sentence # 1 tell the topic of your paragraph in one sentence. For example: Making a
peanut butter and jelly sandwich is easy.

Sentence # 2 give a detail about your topic. For example: First lay two slices of bread
on a plate.

Sentence # 3 give another detail about your topic. For example: Spread peanut butter
on one piece of bread.

Sentence # 4 one more detail about your topic. For example: Spread jelly on the other
slice of bread and put the two pieces of bread together.

Sentence # 5 retell your topic in another way. For example: Now you can eat the
peanut butter and jelly sandwich you made.

Write a Haiku

This form of poetry usually has 17 syllables. The first line has five syllables,
the second line has seven syllables and the third line has five syllables.

A haiku is usually written about something in nature. For example, think of

the sights and sounds and smells of spring.

Flowers break through ground,

While birds return to their homes.
Welcome to spring time.

Its your turn to write a haiku. Then draw a picture to go with your poem.

Write in sequence
Sequence means that your story will start with the first event that
happened then go to the next event and the next until you reach the
end. Before you write out your story, you can write a plan so that your
story will stay in order.

Think of an incident that has happened in your life. You could write about
the day your dog got lost, the day you fell and got hurt, or even a day
you went to a special place.

Now write out the important parts in order. You do not need to write in a
complete sentence (although you may do that if you choose). You can
simply write out a phrase to tell what happened in order.

For example:

A. I let the dog outside and he ran away.

B. I made signs.

C. Mom and I put signs all over the neighborhood.

D. A woman called our house. She found him.

Now you try! Think of an incident in your life and write each event in the
incident in order.

A. _______________________________________________________________

B. _______________________________________________________________

C. _______________________________________________________________

D. _______________________________________________________________

When youve completed the incident sequence above, write out your
incident story in order according to your outline. You can use another
sheet of paper, or write on the back of this paper.

Writing sentences

A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought.

A sentence has to make sense to be a complete sentence.

REMEMBER: Always capitalize the first words in a sentence and put punctuation
(period, question mark or exclamation point) at the end of each sentence.

If the group of words below is a complete sentence, draw a line through the number. If it
is NOT a complete sentence, add words to make it one.
