physically sit within the network. The application identifies the nearest node based on the particular geographical
location. It is a warehouse of nodes and Consolidation units. It is used to find out the nearest node or
Consolidation unit from a particular location and also manages the updated node/switch information

Managed Network Control Layer - Event Collection and Alarm Translation (NCL ECAT) application in production
environment.
NCL ECAT application collects information on alarms and events that occur on the Transmission network. This
information is processed in real time and passed to Network Operation unit to assist them in managing the
network, collects alarms from SDH Network and forwards to Fault management system. ECAT application is
critical for the Network Maintenance; it receives the Network event information (alarms) from different element
managers monitoring the SDH Network and translates the alarms into a form that is understandable by the Fault
management system

architecture, relational database technology and interfaces, to ensure portability across operating platforms
