Local Axis

Location of Forces

Notes:
1.) For Axial, Fx (+) is Compression, (-) is Tension.
2.) My is the moment about local y axis; moment along longitudinal direction.
3.) Mz is the moment about local z axis; moment along transverse direction.
4.) Sign convention for moment & shear are based on the direction of local axis.
5.) Pile diameter is 1050mm.
6.) The assumed pile length on model is 12.25m.
Embedded pile length of 6.0m + exposed pile length (with shotcrete) of 6.25m
8.) Out of position tolerance of 75mm is considered in the design.
9.) Pile designed for 3000kN rail collision on Y-dir with 1500kN rail collision on Z-dir
10.) Lateral spring considered: 0m-1m = Fill (5kPa/mm), 1m-3.6m = RS Clay (15kPa/mm)
3.6m-7m EW Siltstone (75kPa/mm), >7m HW Siltstone (150kPa/mm)
11.) For springs in the exposed length of Pile, passive spring (3 x kh) is activated only during
rail collision case. For all other load case, exposed spring is assumed to be free (w/o spring).
12.) Piles assumed to deflect before construction of abutment headstock. As recommended by
geotech, the deflection is 35mm nominal.
