The learner demonstrates understanding of 20th century music styles and characteristic features.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner creates musical pieces using particular style/s of the 20 th century.

Describes distinctive musical elements of given pieces in 20 th century styles

At the end of this lesson, the student will be able to:


1. Present different musical works of different composers thru listening/ viewing
2. Describe distinctive musical elements of given pieces in 20th century styles

II. CONTENT
Topic: 20th Century Musical Styles
Impressionism to Modern Nationalism
(Composers, Musical Works, Styles and Characteristics)
Reference: Horizons Grade 10 Teachers Guide, pages 6 to 13
Horizons Grade 10 Teachers Guide, pages 4 to 11
Materials: teacher-made visuals (video clips, recordings from Youtube/ internet of
impressionism, expressionist, neo-classicist, avant-garde, and modern nationalist
music
Pictures of different composers
III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. Before the Lesson

Post a different pictures of the composers, name them and introduce him to the class by
giving at least a line/ sentence about him.

4. Presentation of the Lesson

The teacher will present the lesson about impressionism and music of the 20 th century; their
composers, musical works, and musical styles and characteristics of the 20 th century

Watch and listen to the different music of the different composers such as:

Claude Debussy (1862-1918)


Joseph Maurice Ravel (1875-1937)
Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951)
Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971)

What did you observe in the video presented?


Compare and contrast the different musical works of different composers

c. ABSTRACTION
Task 3. Concept Digest

The teacher will give a brief backgrounds of the author


d. APPLICATION
Task 3. Drawing Lots

1. The class will be divided into 4. Each group will choose 4 representatives who will be
assigned as the contestants.
2. After watching the video, the teacher will give a box containing slips of paper with the
names of Debussy, Ravel, Schoenberg and Stravinsky and their musical works and
review all the features of each of the composers.
3. The teacher will act as the quiz master to ask different basic information about the 4
composers.
4. Each correct answers earns a point.
5. The group should assign a scorer for the activity.

The performance will be assess by giving insights and learnings.
