Brief history [1]
Management empirical: based on innate qualities of the manager and his assistant
s or previous procedures. Much more art, feeling than technique. Classical or tr
aditional management: those who, from decades of 1940/50 were developed mainly i
n engineering, defense, aeronautics and aerospace. Are highly technical, highly
complex, high costs and relatively long. Modern Project Management (PGM): Develo
ped from the early 1990s. Aimed at a broad application and has been used in all
areas of government or private, due to the rapid cycle of products, speed of tec
hnology and fierce competition.

Schedule Schedule (time) costs
Quality + Customer Satisfaction
Independent tasks, non-repetitive Resources (people, equipment, materials, facil
ities, etc..) Scheme specific time or effort only once has a client / server inv
olves a degree of uncertainty => assumptions and estimates

Project Management Process
This process refers to "plan the work and then execute the plan" in order to ach
ieve the project objective. "The initial effort in managing a project should foc
us on establishing a basic plan that contains a diagram showing how its scope wi
ll be completed on time and under budget." (Gido and Clements,€"Project Managem
ent", Ed Thomson, 2007)
Prof. M.Sc. Diogenes Lima Neto
Project Management Process
Stages of Project Management: - Clearly define the project purpose - Divide and
subdivide the project scope in significant fractions (or "work packages") - Defi
ne the specific activities to be conducted for each work package - graphically i
llustrate the activities in diagram form (networking, for example) - make an est
imate of time to complete each activity - Make a cost estimate for each activity
- Calculate a schedule and a budget to determine if the project could be comple
ted within the time required and the resources allocated (financial, human, etc.
).
