COLLEGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM BASED ON ARDUINO

Abstract
This paper focus on sending a students
profile to the parents through message.
Usually, in educational institutions the
students profile is sent through the post
card but it may not be reached by some
problems. In some institutions the web
services may be used, which is difficult to
use by uneducated parents. In this paper this
process is made easy by sending message
through mobile to the concern parents
mobile number. Here arduino is used to
interface with gsm modem. By using this
technique parents who are educated or
uneducated can get the status of his/her
children at a regular interval also the parents
can make enquiry by giving a missed call.
While making missed call the parents will
get the information which is stored in
database.
Introduction
This project represents the college
management system based on arduino.In this
parents can get the students profile detail in
an easy way. The current system for getting
a result is by a letter methodology. But it is a
new way for all educated/uneducated
parents. In letter posting system once if the
address is not true (or) the address is in
undeliverable area, the letter will be
returned, another method is typing the
message and sending to the parents, if the
message will be deleted by someone before

the sight of the parents they cannot recover
the data again. But in this new system they
can recover the data whenever they want. In
this new system parents can know the status,
achievements of the students. In this system
GSM modem is used to connect the parents
with the management. We interface the
GSM and arduino to the system and then the
database is connected through the software.
Because of this the parents can get the
details and results of the student in an easy
way.
Send Message from GSM Module using
Arduino
The GSM stands for Global System for
Mobile communications. This is a global
standard which is followed by the GSM
modules inside the cellular phones which
enables them to be connected with any
mobile network around the globe. In certain
applications the microcontroller based
systems has to be connected with the GSM
network which will enable a user to control
the system by sending messages or making a
call. The systems can also send messages to
the user to alert or inform about the status of
the system running. In all such cases a
separate GSM module is used rather than
using the mobile phones. The advantage of
using a GSM communication with a system
or device is that the user can control the

system wirelessly no matter how far it is
kept compared to any other wireless
communication, provided that both the user
and the device should be in a cellular
coverage area.
This particular project demonstrates how to
interface a GSM module and send SMS to
other mobile numbers using an Arduino
board. The AVR microcontroller boards
which are provided with all the basic
circuitry for the operation of the
microcontroller which has been flashed with
the Arduino boot-loader are called Arduino
boards. The Arduino IDE is so simple to use
that anyone who has basic knowledge of c
programming can quickly get started with it.
The project on how to get started with
theArduino explains about the steps required
to get start with an Arduino board. The
Arduino can communicate with the other
devices using its digital I/O, serial port, I2C
port, SPI port etc. and in this project the
GSM module is interfaced using the serial
port of the Arduino board.

wirelessly no matter how far it is kept
compared to any other wireless
communication, provided that both the user
and the device should be in a cellular
coverage area.
The mobile phones have built in GSM
modules which then be used by the
processor inside the phone to make a call,
send or receive message or even connect
with the GPRS network. When it comes to a
microcontroller based system a separate
GSM module is used rather than using a cell
phone as such. There are GSM modules
available which can do serial
communication with microcontroller based
systems. The communication is done by
sending or receiving AT commands with the
GSM module. This particular project
demonstrates how to interface a GSM
module and read and display SMS on the
16*2 LCD.
Any AVR microcontroller based board
which follows the standard Arduino
schematic and is flashed with the Arduino
bootloader can be called an Arduino board.
The Arduino is refered to as open source
hardware and the Arduino IDE is also open
source and anybody can contribute their
libraries to the Arduino. All arduino boards
should be compatible with the Arduino IDE
which can be used to program the Arduino
board

Design process

Microsoft access
Microsoft is a database management system
(DBMS).The purpose of Microsoft Access is
to create quick and easy databases. It
provides a user-friendly interface that helps
the user build and develop an information
storage and retrieval system without much
programming experience. Microsoft Access
is an office product that allows the user to
create relational database that have tables of
data. Microsoft Access helps you analyse Output
large amounts of information, and manage
related data more efficiently. Microsoft The output will be received by mobile.
Access is used as back end software of this
system.

Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0

Visual Basic is a programming language and
development environment created by
Microsoft. Visual Basic provides a graphical
user interface (GUI)it is a language that
allows the developer drag and drop objects
into the program as well as manually write
program code. It uses the basic language
which is known to most computer
programmers, and which can be learned
quickly if it is not already known.
