Q.1. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it:
Yoga is the ancient system to keep a person fit in body and mind. It is basically a system of
self-treatment. According to the 'Yogic' view, diseases, disorders and ailment are the result of some
faulty ways of living bad habits, lack of proper knowledge and unsuitable food. The diseases are, thus,
the resultant state of a sort of prolonged-malfunctioning of the body system since the root cause of a
disease lies in the mistakes of the individual himself. The Yoga expert shows only the path and words
so more than a counsellor. The 'Yogic' practice of treatment comprises three steps namely proper diet,
proper yogic practice and proper knowledge of things about the self.

Q.2. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it;
Alladin was a poor boy who found in an ancient tomb an old lamp, which he proudly took
home. But he didn't know what a treasure he had found until he began to polish the lamp. As soon
as he began rubbing it, a terrible Jinn appeared, who told him that he was the slave of the magic
lamp and bound to do any task his lord and master wanted. When Alladin wished for anything, he
was only to rub the lamp and Jinn would appear to carry out his wishes. The Jinn was good at his
word, for he supplied Alladin with boundless wealth, built splendid palace in a moment, married him
to the king's daughter and made him a Prince.

Q.3. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it:
Gandhiji's mother was a very sweet, kind and religious woman. She visited the temple daily,
often taking her little son with her. She fasted frequently too. Once she made a vow to eat only one
meal a day for four months, and not to take even that one meal unless she had first seen sunshine.
As she had made this vow in the rainy season, it was often difficult to see sunshine at all. Her
children, who could not bear to think of their dear mother going without food all the twenty-four
hours, would hand staring up at the sky, waiting to catch the first beams of the sun. As soon as a ray
appeared, they would dash into the house and call their mother to come and see for herself. By the
time she came out, the sun had often gone behind the clouds, again. "It does not matter", she would
say cheerfully. "God does not want me to eat today", and back to her household tasks. In this way
Gandhiji learnt, from his good mother how to penance cheerfully for love of God.

Q.5. Read the following passage carefully and do as instructed in (a) and (b) below
the passage :
If you make a mistake have the moral courage immediately to acknowledge your error and put
it right. .Mistakes do very little harm if they are acknowledged without delay and corrected before they
have had the time to do any damage,, Let them remain unattended and they may do untold harm
both to the task in hand and to your reputation. Contrary to general belief, nobody despises a person
who has the moral courage to admit that he is in the wrong and is immediately prepared to make
good the errors. What can you say to a man who admits, "I beg your pardon." You are quite right and
I am quite wrong. Please let me set the matter right now immediately before it has done any harm.
"Would you despise a man like that ?" Then why not emulate him ? But here let me tell you, nobody
likes such a fool as a man who is trying to keep his end up by desperate lying when he is in the wrong
and everyone knows it.

Summary If mistake is done we have to accept if immediately. It shows morality or It is
matter of moral courage. We can save our reputation. The person who is doing mistakes again and
again that is not liked by the others. We have to admit by saying, 'I beg your pardon'. The matter will
be corrected. People will like such a person. Toerr is human. We should make it correct being always
ready to accept our mistakes or wrong.
Q.6. Write an article on the 'Save Water' with the help of the verbal inputs given
below (about 80 words) :

Ans. (iii) A CRICKET MATCH / AN INTERESTING MATCH
Introduction The games and sports make life interesting. They provide us sound body. Cricket
is my favourite game. I go to visit a cricket match whenever I get chance. I witnessed a cricket match last
week.
The Teams The match was between Dinesh Club and Umesh Club Teams. Both the teams are
well known teams of our town. They were wearing white shirts and white trousers. The players looked
very smart in the dress.
The Match Dinesh Club team won the toss. The captain decided to bat. Hari was the opening
batsman. My brother scored fifty runs in spite of fast bowling. Total runs reached in ninty three. There
were only seven runs short for the century.
After interval Umesh Club took batting. The first pair could not score any run and left the field.
The team played well and scored ninty five runs. The captain himself scored seventy five runs. This
team proved stronger than my brothers. Umesh Club team won the match. But public praised Dinesh
Club team too.
Conclusion All of us returned home. I found the match exciting and interesting. Really it was
very fine match. It is hard to forget it. Let us become like good players. Let us spread love, peace and
friendship like them all over the world.
(v) ANY INTERESTING JOURNEY (A JOURNEY BY TRAIN)
Introduction- A journey is a tour. It is an effective means of education. I had been gone to
Agra last month. It is a famous historical city.
Preparations- My parents were with me. We had three small suitcase with us. We got up early.
We went to station in time. We bought own tickets and reached the platform.
At the Platform The train was half an hour late. Father bought some story-books from a
stall. We took tea there. People were running here and there. They were in a hurry.
In the Train The train arrived. We got and occupied our seats. After few minutes the guard
blew the whistle. The train started and left the platform.
On the Journey I was happy. I was sitting near a window. I began to look out of the
window. I saw beautiful trees and forests. I saw some hills and falls falling. My parents were busy in
reading books. We took our lunch in the day.

End of the journey- It was evening when we reached Agra. My father called coolie to lift the
suitcase. My uncle had come to receive us. We hired a Tanga and reached home. It was a nice
journey. I enjoyed it very much. I will never forget it.
