Introduction:

Parallels in the Bible.

o Joseph and Jesus.
o Elijah and John the Baptist.
o Deliverance from Egypt and Deliverance from Sin.
o Abraham was a type of God, Isaac was a type of Christ.
Today we want to study one such parallels in the Bible that deals with the Babylon. One was

literal and another symbolic.

Body:

Similarities between Ancient Babylon and Symbolic Babylon.

Ancient, literal Babylon Symbolic Babylon

1. Babylon dwelt among many waters 1. Symbolic Babylon was seated upon many

(Jeremiah 51: 12, 13) waters. (Revelation 17: 1)

the sea and found no more at all. (Revelation 18:
(Jeremiah 51: 64)

The Ancient Babylon and the symbolic Babylon are very similar. Even their fall is similar which

we will look today.

Facts about the Greatest City of Antiquity.
o Two sets of walls the outer walls and the inner walls. Both were double walls. The two

inner walls were twelve and twenty two feet wide respectively. The two walls making

up the outer defenses were twenty-four and twenty-six feet wide. Thus, in order for

enemies to get into the inner city where the palace and the main temple were located,
they would have had to go through or over close to eighty-five feet of walls and each wall

was well defended! We know that horses could actually gallop on top of the outer walls.
o The city proper covered an area of 12 miles and thus was the second largest city in

antiquity. The entrances to the city were guarded by lion sphinxes.

o The city had 53 major temples and 955 smaller sanctuaries or shrines. It had 384 altars

throughout the city streets. The greatest temple was the Great Zigguarat, which was

built in honor of the patron sun-god Marduk. This temple was 300 feet wide at its base

and 300 feet high.

o Babylon was a very rich city Jeremiah 51: 13.
o Crucial to the protection of Babylon was the Euphrates River which ran through the

center of the city from north to south.

What does symbolic Babylon represent?
o Jeremiah 6: 2 Daughters of Zion represented as comely and delicate woman. Zion is

Gods people (Isaiah 51: 16). In other words, Women represents Gods people, his

Church.
o 2 Corinthians 11: 2 Gods people are even represented as chaste virgin.
o Revelation 17: 5 In contrast, this Babylon is represented as mother of harlots. Only

Roman Catholic Church fits this role.

If the Church is the chaste woman faithful to her husband, then Babylon is the

opposite: that system of worship that is unfaithful to God, has a mystery religion,

and teaches and practices abominations. The harlot daughters must then

represent those churches that follow her false teachings and subject themselves

to her rule or, even worse, officially accept Romes leadership as authoritative.
It must be always clear that the one, holy, catholic and apostolic universal

church is not the sister, but the mother of all the churches.i
o Revelation 17: 1 Babylon is the whore that sits upon many waters. Waters represent

people (Revelation 17: 15). Thus this power is universal. Even the word catholic

actually means universal.

o There are many more proofs that can be found in the handouts. Now, lets look at the

sins of the ancient Babylon.

Sins of ancient Babylon.
o Babylon indulged in Idolatry and False worship Daniel 3; 5: 1 4, 23, 24.
Belshazzar used the holy vessels of God for the common purpose and profaned

the name of God.

o Babylon involved deeply in occultic practices Daniel 5: 7, Isaiah 47:9, 12, 13.
o Babylons greatest sins were persecution of Gods people Daniel 1: 1 4,
Sins of Symbolic Babylon the sins of the symbolic Babylon is similar to the sins of ancient

Babylon.
o Sin #1 Idolatry & false system of worship
The fact that God created the heavens and the earth distinguishes the true God

from all false gods. We worship him because he is the creator. God made the

Sabbath with his own hands so to speak. He created it as holy time to remind

man that he was the creator. The Sabbath stands at the heart of all worship.
In contrast, does Sunday teach us to distinguish between the true creator God

and all false gods? No. Did God make Sunday as a day of worship or was Sunday

made for worship by the hands of man? No. When we worship on a day made for

worship by the hands of man, what sins are we committing? Idolatry and false

worship.
Idolatry and false worship are closely entwined. An idol is anything that man

makes for worship which God has not made for worship. We already saw that the

institution of Sunday worship was made by man, the Roman Catholic Church

takes the responsibility to itself.

Sunday worship is idolatry!
o Sin #2 Occultic practices
Revelation 18: 23 Nation by deceived by Babylon by sorceries.
Revelation 13: 13 16 Deceives by false and spurious miracles.
Revelation 16: 13, 14 The false trinity performs miracles to deceive.
This exactly fits the Roman Catholic Church as today it has brought many evil

and occultic practices into the church. E.g. The celebration of mass ii
o Sin #3 Persecution of Gods people
Revelation 17: 6 Drunken with the blood of the saints.
Revelation 13: 7, 15 Made war with the saints of the most high.
This precisely fits the Roman Catholic Church.
Fall of literal Babylon
o Daniel 5: 5, 25 Probation closed.
o Daniel 5: 26 28 God is finally going to intervene and deliver his faithful people. He is

going to recompense for the evil deeds of the false trinity.

Fall of symbolical Babylon.
o Revelation 16: 17 21 When the Angel said it is done, theres a great destruction.

Revelation 18: 21 - Jesus will come and destroy this power to set up his kingdom.
Conclusion:

The battle is not long. The signs are fulfilling. The only safe refuge for is Jesus. If we hide under

the shadow of the almighty, we will be secure. Just a little time and our Lord will come. He will

come to take us back home. He can only take us if we are ready.

Appeal Hand rising - Are you willing to surrender your hearts now to Jesus to be safe from

the destruction that is going to come upon this world?
