Professional Development
Tennessee Music Educators Association - 2014, 2015
The Tennessee Music Educators Association(TMEA) is a three day conference that is held in Nashville or Memphis. This conference is by music teachers, for music teachers. TMEA covers elementary and secondary levels, and also covers band, choir, orchestra, and general music. I have been able to attend many masterclasses and seminars to learn ways to being a better teacher in all grade levels and music subjects.
North American Saxophone Alliance - 2014
The North American Saxophone Alliance Conference is a biannual event, and this particular one was held in Champaign, Illinois. During this conference, I was able to attend masterclasses covering saxophone pedagogy and different methods of teaching the instrument. I was also able to attend masterclasses over certain pieces of the classical saxophone repertoire. There were also concerts that showcased many world-renowned saxophonists, many of whom were presenting the masterclasses I attended. National Association for Music Education Collegiate Hill Day - 2016 The National Association for Music Education is the national advocacy body for music teachers all across the country. For collegiate students, they offer Hill Day as a way to advocate and improve yourself as a teacher. As the President of the UTM CNAfME Chapter, myself, along with two other collegiate students in Tennessee, went to Washington D.C. During my time there, I was able to advocate for music education on the national level with Tennessee Senators and Congressmen and women. Most of what we discussed was about music and also the ESSA Bill and the Title IV appropriations. We also attended many masterclasses and seminars to help us understand these policies, and also improve ourselves as educators.
International Saxophone Symposium - 2017
The International Saxophone Symposium is a yearly event, hosted by the United States Navy. This two day conference hosts a plethora of masterclasses, concerts, and lectures for all levels of musicians. At this conference, I was able to attend many of the masterclasses learning more about saxophone repertoire and pedagogy. The conference also features two concerts: One hosted by the U.S. Navy Concert Band, the premier Navy performing ensemble. The second concert is hosted by the Commodores, the Navys premier jazz ensemble.
