Takashi Inouye
Sept. 1, 1926 Feb. 27, 2017
Takashi Inouye left us on February 27 to join
his wife and soulmate Ivy. Tak (affectionately
known as Popsie) was born in Kagoshima Japan on
September 1, 1926, one of eight children born to the
late Masakichi and Ei Inouye. When Tak was three
the family immigrated to British Columbia where
they settled on BCs west coast. Tak had many fond
memories of fishing and growing up by the ocean.
During World War II the government relocated
the family to Hastings Park and then to Magrath,
Alberta where they worked in the sugar beet fields.
After the war Tak moved to Glenwood, Alberta
and it was while owning and operating a gas
station there that Tak met his wife Ivy and her four
children. In 1966 they moved to the Nelson area,
where Tak worked at Finning Tractor and Central
Truck. They purchased property and working
together built a home in Longbeach. In 1972 Tak
began working on the MV Balfour and the MV
Anscomb ferries as an oiler, and by 1974 became
a marine engineer. Tak and Ivy loved working
around their home and yard, spending time with
family and friends, fishing, music, and going to the
casino. They were a couple who enjoyed each others
company and always welcomed others into their
lives. After retiring Tak and Ivy spent their winters
in Mesa, Arizona until Ivy became ill. Tak took care
of her until her passing in 2002. Tak and Ivy had
both experienced the Great Depression and knew
what it was like to go without. They valued family,
friends and community and were well known for
their hospitality, kindness and belief in sharing.
A tea to honour and celebrate Taks life is
scheduled for March 18, 2 pm at the Procter Hall.
Tak always believed that helping others was the
right thing to do, so we ask that in lieu of flowers
you do a kind deed. He would like that.
Thank you to Dr. Kirsten and Dr. Janz for the
competent and kind care you provided Tak over the
years. Thank you also to all of the staff at Mountain
Lakes Seniors Community for the compassion
and consideration you showed Tak these last five
months. Taks passing leaves his four sisters, many
family members, extended family and friends to not
just grieve his passing but to rejoice in the honour
of having had this amazing man in our lives.
