1.0 Introduction
Alfresco is the Open Source Alternative for Enterprise Content Management (ECM), providing Document
Management, Collaboration, Records Management, Knowledge Management, Web Content Management
and Imaging. Alfresco reduces your ECM costs by up to 96% compared to proprietary systems like
Documentum, Open Text and SharePoint. It's as simple to use as a shared drive or SharePoint and does
not lock you business in to a proprietary stack.

Alfresco (Community Edition 3.3g) has now implementation for Google Docs™ integration, that makes,
use of Google Docs™ seem more natural than the use of traditional desktop applications. The increasing
market demand for and adoption of Alfresco and Google Docs™ has made an intersection of the two
solutions immanent. True to the character of the company and culture of the community, Alfresco
recognized the need, identified the value, and delivered a solution with great success.

Windows Server 2003 AD: is a central component of the Windows platform, Active Directory directory
service provides the means to manage the identities and relationships that make up network
environments. Windows Server 2003 makes Active Directory simpler to manage, easing migration and
deployment. It’s now been replaced with Windows Server 2008. Active directory has been around since
the release of Windows 2000 several years ago, and is now a standard sight in many offices. Its inclusion
marked a radical change at the heart of the Windows Server platform, one that people are still adjusting to
today. In this hands-on training session Exchange Server 2003 has been installed on Widows server 2003
for our messaging solutions. You have the option to install Windows Server 2008 with Exchange Server
2007 for your lab training sessions. Finally, we’ll use the clean install Windows server to install Alfresco
Community Edition 3.3g for your Web Content Management.

Hands-on Labs Training: - In this Hands-on Lab session, you’ll learn how to setup virtual network on
VMware (you may also use any other virtual machines like MS VirtualPC, Linux Xen, or VirtualBox from
Oracle). In this lab session, we’ll concentrate on installing Alfresco on a clean install Windows Server
2003 AD DC. You will learn how to DNS server for your AD solutions. I’ll also show you how to setup
static IP address which is required for deploying a DNS server. Finally, we’ll go through a step-by-step
process to install Alfresco Community 3.3 Edition on our Windows server 2003 AD. Next, you’ll learn how
to integrate Google Docs™ with Alfresco to deploy documents for anywhere anytime access. You’ll also
have opportunity to do some assignment at the end of the lab session. Upon completion of this hands-on
lab you’ll have gained a competency level and a capability to be able to plan design implement and deploy
ECM solution using Alfresco on Windows Server as desired.
