For a long time I let it get me down, how good people look on the internet
compared to how i look in real life. It wasn't long before I figured it was an
unfair comparison. You only put your best bits online and with all the apps

ESSAY self-perception and body image issues"?.*

January 18, 2017 9:17 PM

Totally agree. It forces constant comparison which is not healthy for the
mind or the body

January 16, 2017 9:27 PM

I agree

January 15, 2017 4:10 AM

Yes - photoshopping is being raised more and more. I like that some
celebrities have even complained their picture has been "over done".
Once you see the before and after pics, it really hits home the extent
which magazines take it. It's easy to forget that and admire someone's
beauty that technically isn't a true representation!

January 14, 2017 10:41 PM

This depends on how you interpret the message. Magazines can inspire
you to look good and feel good about yourself but they can also give you
a complex about your image

January 14, 2017 7:07 PM

I think it depends on how I'm feeling in that moment of time, if I'm not
feeling great about my body then I will feel bad when I see someone fit on
instagram. When I'm feeling happy I don't really think anything of it.
Do you feel that beauty and fashion bloggers are a
Q24
positive or negative influence on self-perception and
body image? And, why?*
ESSAY
January 18, 2017 9:17 PM
Depends which ones you look at. There's a market for everything these
days so if you want to look at already beautiful girls covering their faces in
make up and getting surgery - and it makes you feel bad, then there's
always an alternative of looking at and looking up to the standards of
people who are happy with their image and promote self-love and
positive identities

January 16, 2017 9:27 PM

I think they can be both positive and negative because some motivate
and have helpful info

January 15, 2017 4:10 AM

Good and bad I guess. Most bloggers are trying to share ideas, tips and
want to encourage people to feel good about themselves. It's entirely
dependent on how that blogger portrays these things.

January 14, 2017 10:41 PM

Positive, if you take their advice in the right way

January 14, 2017 7:07 PM

No, when I'm watching beauty videos I'm there for the make up, not to
compare myself.
Have you ever changed your image, or look

purposefully as a result of influence or content from
social media or a magazine? i.e. celebrity diet,
ESSAY cosmetic surgery, makeup regime. If so, what and
why?

If no, please state 'no' and skip.*

January 18, 2017 9:17 PM

I maybe got a hair cut or two but never really took too much notice. The
standards are not only set by the magazines but also by the people who
follow them - I know a lot of those people and they all influence me so
perhaps I am more inclined to follow celebrity trends than I thought

January 16, 2017 9:27 PM

No

January 15, 2017 4:10 AM

Not really

January 14, 2017 10:41 PM

No. I read the tips and occasionally try new ways of wearing my make up.
I like the diet, fitness & lifestyle information but it can ve very subjective

January 14, 2017 7:07 PM

No
Do you feel that celebrity culture, influences our self-
Q26
perceptions and body image? If so, how?

ESSAY If no, please state 'no'.*

January 18, 2017 9:17 PM

Definitely. We iconise individuals as if they have no flaws, in comparison
to the many we notice within ourselves. It's an unbalanced scale, like
Hiro, the sushi guy, he makes the fish look beautiful but it's taken him
years of mastery to achieve that effect out of a big dead ugly fish, and like
many great masters, he only shows off his best work. There's an art to it
and we aren't all good at it which causes disparity and lack of self
confidence.

January 16, 2017 9:27 PM

Yes, all very skinny flaunt in underwear on social media etc

January 15, 2017 4:10 AM

For many people yes. A lot of people strive to look/dress exactly as a
certain celebrity would. Instead of maybe just taking ideas. It's a whole
package and glamour image to show a certain wealth as opposed to just
following a trend.

January 14, 2017 10:41 PM

Only if you allow it to

January 14, 2017 7:07 PM

For me, no. I've never looked up to a celebrity even as a child because I
just thought there is no way I will ever ever look like that
